Maybe Next Year

What to say.  I waited until today to write up something on the Cubs because the words coming out of my mouth on the weekend could not be posted on here.  Monday morning at 10:00 I still have nothing to say.  This team was nothing short of a disgrace in the post-season.  They got outplayed in every single part of the game and deserved to get knocked out in three straight games.  What kind of team has every infielder commit an error?  This team couldn’t hit to save their lives, however I will give DLee some props as he gave it his all in game 3.  Lee was trying his best and got on base a few times to do nothing more than stand in 1 spot.

This team had a regular season to remember, with lots of great memories that started day 1 with Fukudome but ended in shame.  Everyone on the planet knew it was World Series or bust for the Cubs this year and they didn’t even get past round 1 again! hell they didn’t even win a game!

Cubs fans I do hope you have other pro teams that don’t let you down as much.  I myself have the Broncos…thank heavens because my Senators usually let me down as well.  Who knows how long it will be before the Cubs win.  Perhaps another 100 years.  This group will need to be looked at now that the season is over.  Currently the only players I would like to see back are Lee, Theriot, Zambrano, Harden, Wood, Marmol, and the rest you can do whatever you feel like with.

I will be back later in the day to talk about another win for the Broncos!  you can email me with comments or questions at sandygemmiti@sportstalkbuzz.com

All Over But The Crying

The Chicago Cubs were nothing short of brutal.  The best at bats likely belonged to the pitcher Carlos Zambrano and that isn’t much of an overstatement.  Carlos Zambrano came out and was doing a solid job, and forced the Dodgers into what looked like an inning ending double play.  Instead DeRosa blows the play, Dodgers score, Lee botches the next play, and we know how the rest goes.

This Cubs team is wonderful on paper but obviously doesn’t look to have what it takes to get it done in October.  This is a brutal trend for Cubs fans.  Even if you go back to that Bartman play, the Cubs could of got themselves out of it but botched a play to keep the inning alive.  This current group of Cubs seem to have the same fate as many groups before them.

Perhaps going with Dempster in game 1 just set the wrong tone.  Perhaps Zambrano and the Cubs needed him to start game 1 and say this our best guy and we will beat you with him.

Reasons to keep the faith.

1.  Harden - Looks to be our ace in the hole.

2.  Lilly - Very solid pitcher that could easily steal a game for us in LA.

3. If we win the next 2 in LA we could go back to Zambrano, or Dempster in game 5 and you would hope they don’t have back to back stinkers in them.

Reasons to think we are done.

1. Derek Lowe - dude looked fantastic and has the stuff to make the Cubs look silly.  Lowe would be available to stop this series from going back to Chicago.

2. We are down 2-0 and as I said yesterday 23 of the past 26 game 1 winners have gone on to win the series…lets not make the stats worse with the teams that went up 2-0 but as you can imagine it isn’t a better number.

3. Manny - I said before the series started that I have a bad feeling it is his year.  I gotta say if they end up beating the Cubs I will be cheering for the Rays but part of me will want to see the Dodgers play the Red Sox in the World Series.

4.  We can’t hit -  unless our hitters pick it up we are done.

You can send questions or comments to sandygemmiti@sportstalkbuzz.com and I will be back later in the day for my Broncos/Bucs preview.

Win or Bust for the Cubs in Game 2

categorycategory

Well how are you feeling today Cubs fans?

If you are anything like me, you likely feel awful and that the Cubs are going to get swept.  Well that would be a poor attitude but when you are a Cubs fan and you always seem to deal with losing, it just is a natural feeling I guess.  I still have plenty of faith and will explain to you why here in a second.

23 of the last 26 game 1 winners of the NLDS have gone on to win the series.  Yep brutal odds and they don’t sound good for the Cubs or Brewers.  However if this is going to be the Cubs magic season, dropping game 1 is no big deal…just ask the Red Sox.

The biggest reasons I won’t lose faith yet at this point are the following

1. Zambrano

2. Harden

We have our 2 best pitchers left to come.  Zambrano will head out tonight and Harden will follow, which has to make you feel good about our odds of taking the next 2.  If the Cubs can get the next 2 the advantage swings hard in a 5 game series.

I don’t want to talk in great detail about last eve’s game as it was very hard to watch Ryan Dempster struggle so badly.  He really didn’t look in control from the start and I was sort of suprised Lou left him in so long.  I guess he was only trying to let him work out of it.  I was also very upset with alot of pitches Cubs batters chased out of the zone…that said some balls were very well hit and just missed by a hair.

I have to get the following thing off my chest.  Why on earth are these 5 game series?  They are not shy on the amount of regular season games they play and then they save games in playoff rounds??  I just don’t get it.  I would say that regardless of who won last evenings ballgame.

Tonight I look for the Cubs to bounce back in a big way….at least I am hoping.  I really am hoping that all the Cubs fans in the building go crazy tonight! get loud! let the players know you believe in them.  When you can hear a pin drop in the building the players must feel that dread.  So I am calling out the fans of Wrigley.  If you want your team to win get loud with them.  Sure you might be nervous but don’t show it.

Lets go Cubbies!!
