I was 13 when Communism fell. If you're in your 20s or younger it's tough to have any conception of the Cold War. I don't remember feeling any type of red scare, but I do remember in the 80s Americans rooted against the U.S.S.R. in the Olympics as a matter of course.

Alexander Semin is capable of taking over a game. Last year against Carolina comes to mind: he tied the game up with under three minutes left and won it in the last 11 seconds. Carolina still hasn't recovered.

Montreal just ended the third longest winning streak in the history of the NHL despite another ludicrous (furious just doesn't cut it) comeback by the Capitals to wipe out a 5-2 third period deficit. It's a testament to this team that after Washington cut it to 5-4 that it seemed just a matter of time until they tied it up, even with as little as 30 seconds left.

The Capitals' win streak hit a baker's dozen tonight despite looking off their game with two feet of snow coming, a fall referred to by some as Snowvechkin. Washington looks completely unbeatable right now.

The latest Caps captain is a scorer, not a fighter. He's closing in on his third consecutive MVP and hates to come off the ice. So when Steve Downie tried to drop the gloves with him three weeks ago tomorrow and Matt Bradley came in to intervene, it was as heroic as a fight on skates can be. Since then, Washington is 10-0.
