Steelers set to be Renegades versus Broncos PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jamie Van Dusen on Friday, 06 November 2009 16:39

The Pittsburgh Steelers look to remain red hot as they go into the Monday nighter against the 6-1 Denver Broncos. Coming off a bye week the Steelers are relatively healthy except for Travis Kirschke who is out with a torn calf muscle. Nick Eason will replace Kirschke, who replaced Aaron Smith as the starting left defensive end. Brett Keisel starts at right defensive end. Hood and Harris are the only other ends on their roster. Harris, of course, was not on their roster until two weeks ago because they cut him, Carolina claimed him and they got him back when the Panthers released him.

Also the decision of whether to play Ryan Clark or not. For those of you who don't know, the last time Clark played in Denver his spleen ruptured. Also questionable is Lawrence Timmons who has a ankle sprain. Timmons not only revealed that he has a grade one, or mild sprain, but that doctors have used other techniques to accelerate the healing time.

"I got a shot in my ankle today," Timmons wrote on his blog Wednesday. "They took 10 ccs of my blood and they have a machine that takes the plasma out. Then they injected the plasma into my ankle. That helps speed up the process of healing. It helped me to a speedy recovery the last time I hurt my ankle.

The Steelers defence has been gaining steam these last couple of weeks and are starting the lok like the #1 defence of last year. If the Steelers defence comes out like Renegades, it could be a long night for Broncos Quarterback Kyle Orton, who has been somewhat of an enigma this young season. Look for the Steelers to make him look like the Orton of old.

You can see the Steelers notes for the game here: http://static.steelers.com/mediacontent/2009/11/03/06/Steelers_notes_for_Broncos_game_113360.pdf

Prediction: I would look for the Steelers to continue their Monday Night dominance and take a game from the Broncos, where it isn't easy to win (Mile High). Steelers 27 Broncos 13

Week 5: Steelers Set To Tame Lions PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jamie Van Dusen on Friday, 09 October 2009 12:55

Coming off a big win last week against the San Diego Chargers, a game I was present at; it seems the Super Bowl Champion Steelers are on their way back to salvaging the season. Blowing the two previous games before that, was not out of the ordinary for a Steeler season, but definitely something that send a wake up call.

Once again this week Rashard Mendenhall will get the start at back. Coming off a player of the week win where he ran for over 160 yards, it only makes sense. Troy Polamalu has practiced sparingly this week, but he is being urged my his team mated to maybe wait until after the bye week, since the field in Detroit is known to be rough and hard.

Polamalu said yesterday he wants to play but added it is up to coach Mike Tomlin and Polamalu's doctors. He went through another limited practice wearing his brace without joining the first-team defence and looks like someone trying to shake off the rust for a possible return against Cleveland Oct. 18 at Heinz Field.

Also coming off big weeks were Ben Roethlisberger and Heath Miller. I would look for the balanced attack of the Steelers to continue in a big way this week against a Lions team who may very well be without their quarterback and top receiver. Mendenhall will undoubtedly be looking to prove his performance last week was no fluke.

Prediction: As always I like to leave my prediction. As stated, I look for the Steelers to continue their arial show and accompany that with a sound running attack. The defence has yet to have a monster game, but should this week. Steelers 38 Lions 13

Steelers VS Bengals PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jamie Van Dusen on Friday, 25 September 2009 14:25

After one loss, it seems the so-called experts and fans alike are writing the defending Super Bowl Champs off. This is not new territory, as a lot of the things being said are the same things that were being said last year. Odds makers are favouring the Bengals by as much as 6 points. Sure the Bengals have improved from last year, but let’s face it; they haven’t had the stiffest competition around.

The Steelers are coming off a disappointing loss in Chicago, as game they should have won; where kicker Jeff Reed took full responsibility for the loss. Reed playing for a contract next season, admitted being nervous before both kicks, something he has never admitted too before. You can bet he won’t have many more misses this season.

The Steelers come into the game still minus their defensive catalyst; Troy Polamalu. Polamalu is hoping to make his return on October 11th against the Detroit Lions. Despite missing their Pro-Bowl safety, the Steelers still are playing some pretty good defence. The running game also picked up some much needed steam last week and I would look forward to that continuing. It was 2nd year running back; Rashard Mendenhall who out rushed Willie Parker. This could set up for some friendly rivalry in the running game and thwart that part of the Steelers game to the forefront again.
Wide receiver Santonio Holmes enters this week the leagues 2nd top receiver. After having a few drops last week, I would suspect Holmes to have a monster game. The Steelers have been in close contests for quite some time now. I look for them to put up a little more points than usual and Big Ben have a 300+ yard game.

Prediciton: Steelers 34 Bengals 17

Polamalu Update! 3-6 weeks; verified PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jamie Van Dusen on Monday, 14 September 2009 16:29

Well, it could have been worse according to Troy Polamalu. Speaking for the first time publicly since his left knee was injured in the Steelers season-opener last Thursday, said he feels fortunate it was not more serious.

Polamalu confirmed that it will take between three and six weeks to recover from the sprained MCL in his left knee. He said no surgery is required.

"Regarding an injury to the knee, this is the best-case scenario," Polamalu said in the Steelers locker room this afternoon.

He wore a brace on the injured knee and said the only rehabilitation he will do for now is "just rest."

Polamalu left the game before the half, when his leg was fallen on, trying to retrieve a blocked kick.

There's an outside possibility he could return for the primetime game in week 4 againts the Chargers. In past Polamalu has proven to be a quick healer.

Tonight's Gonna Be A Good Night PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jamie Van Dusen on Thursday, 10 September 2009 09:08

The Pittsburgh Steelers begin their defence tonight as they host the Tennessee Titans. This could turn out to be a real blood bath after the Titans handed the Steelers an embarrassing loss last year; at the same time disgracing the Terrible Towel. The Steelers defence wants redemption and their target…LenDale White.

Opening night! Oh tonight’s gonna a be a good night. Ultimately I look for the Steeler offence to take control of this match early and then turn to the defence to shut it down. Big Ben Roethlisberger will be looking to have an even better year this year in the passing game.

Starter Lawrence Timmons will not stat tonight’s game, as he is still nursing an injury. In his place will be; Keyron Fox, a special teams stand out and a guy who proved he could play this game at a high level in the pre-season. Tonight we also see the return of Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes; who doesn’t want to be forgotten behind new returnee Stefan Logan.

Look for the Steelers to come out flying and if they can get by, what might be the best offensive line in the NFL, it could be a long night for the Titans. My take on the 2009-2010 Steelers is they are even better than last year; tonight begins the quest to proving so. Prediction: Steelers 31 Titans 16.

Kick off time is 8:30 tonight.
