 The Minnesota Twins signed former Philadelphia right handed relief pitcher Clay Condrey to a 1 year deal for the upcoming 2010 season. He last pitched 3 games in the 2009 World Series as the Phillies lost to the Yankees.
His 2009 statistics were 6-2 with a 3.00 ERA with 42 innings pitched in 45 games. He managed to win 6 games in relief with 25 strikeouts and 14 walks. Condrey spent 2 different stints on the disabled list in 2009.
Condrey brings a veterans experience to young Twins pitching staff who's bullpen struggled at times in the 2009 season. He attended Navasota High School in Beaumont, Texas and small college McNeese State located in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was drafted by the New York Yankees with the 1,728th pick in the 94th round. That made him the last pick overall and Mr. Irrelevant of the 1996 MLB draft. Condrey signed as a free agent with the San Diego Padres in 1998 by then Padres scout Theo Epstein, now General Manager of the Boston Red Sox. He joined the Phillies in 2006 after spending 2 seasons at AAA Ottawa. On December 12, 2009 Condrey became a free agent after he was non tendered by the Phillies.
