altAnother sweep, more players on the DL, a possible trade for Scott Rolen... hey, a pardon for Pete Rose!

Well, not yet, but Commissioner Bud Selig is said to be seriously considering erasing all the admitted wrongdoings of Mr. Rose. This story came to light over the weekend during the 2009 Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Even if this decision passes, Rose will still need the votes of the Veterans Committee. His path to enshrinement into Cooperstown will be extremely rough. Rose admitted to breaking one of baseball’s golden rules (after repeatedly denying it): gambling on baseball. Pete Rose was undoubtedly one of the best and exciting baseball players ever to take the field. No one will deny that. For Rose and his supporters, any acknowledgement of his on-field achievements will be relegated to personal discussions, books and TV shows. But a plaque in Cooperstown? I wouldn’t bet on it.

altAfter a sweep at the hand of the L.A. Dodgers and yesterday’s 8-5 loss in Chicago against the Cubs, the Reds now sit seven games back in the N.L. Central.

- The St. Louis Cardinals made a big move by acquiring outfielder Matt Holliday from the Oakland A’s. Clearly they are in to win it all with this huge trade.

altA tie-breaking, one-pitch, pinch-hit grand slam from Manny Ramirez.

That was the last nail in the coffin that was the Cincinnati Reds’ three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Manny’s slam on Wednesday night sealed a 6-2 victory and stretched the Dodgers home winning streak against the Reds to 11. Bronson Arroyo loaded the bases in the bottom of the 6th inning, and with his pitch count up to 100, Dusty Baker decided to pull the plug and replace him with Nick Masset. With one out, the hope was to induce a grounder for a double play. That did not happen. One pitch later, it was over. Dodgers fans could officially leave the park early and beat the traffic.
