Forrest wins Championship!

categorycategorycategory

In tonight’s main event Griffen took on the Light heavy weight champion of the UFC, Rampage Jackson.  Forrest having won the first season of the ultimate fighter has gone full circle having just finished completing the latest installment of the ultimate fighter reality series as opposing coach of Jackson. The fight was foughtmostly on the feet with both fighters landing a variety of combo’s with Forrest landing some brutal leg kicks and Rampage landing some uppercut and left hook knockdowns.

The fight went to decision with Forrest winning 48-46, 48-46, and 49-46, and seemed oddly unsurprised by the victory.

The line by Rampage “Ill bet my purse our match don’t go to no decision” comes to mind. Well i guess his double negative saved him from having to pay up this time.

In unrealted news, an earlier fight saw a judge oddly gave a 30-28 decision, which is an impossible score, literally, UFC needs to look into their judges a bit.

Tyson Griffen defeated Marcus Aurelio by decision 30-27  by all 3 judges.

In a blood bath courtesy of Chris Lytle’s Circulatory system,  Josh Koschek won by unanimous decision 30-26, 29-27, 30-28.

Joe Stevenson defeated Gleison Tibau by guillotine choke in the 2nd round.

Patrick Cote defeated Ricardo Almeida by Split decision: 29-28 cote, 29-28 almeida, 29-28 cote.

Picks For UFC 86

categorycategorycategory

With UFC 86 this weekend and the Light Heavyweight Championship on the line, the MMA writers here at Sports Talk Buzz will begin making our picks for the five main fights on the card. This will continue, hopefully, for all future UFC events and let you, the reader, see just who can predict the most correct fights from event to event. My picks for Saturday are as follows:

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (-260) vs Forest Griffin (+200)

I have to go with Rampage in this fight. I don’t see the chin of Forrest Griffin going past the second round.

Patrick Cote (+100) vs Ricardo Almeida (-130)

I am picking the underdog, Patrick Cote, here.

Josh Koscheck (-330) vs Chris Lytle (+220)

Josh Koscheck should have no problem getting this fight to the ground and controlling it. He is my pick here.

Joe Stevenson (-220) vs Gleison Tibau (+175)

In another upset I am picking Tibau to hand Stevenson his second straight loss.

Tyson Griffin (-350) vs Marcus Aurelio (+250)

Tyson Griffin should win this fight easily and I will pick him in this fight.

Let’s see how the chips fall on Saturday night in Las Vegas. I now invite the other MMA writers at the site to provide their picks in the comments section. Hopefully we hear from Kevin Lee as well as he has become more and more interested with the sport in the past few months. Any readers who would like to provide their picks are also more than welcome to do so.

Bragging rights are most certainly on the line. Best of luck to all.

UFC 89: Thiago Alves vs Diego Sanchez

categorycategorycategory

Thiago AlvesAccording to MMA Weekly, welterweight standouts Thiago Alves and Diego Sanchez will clash at UFC 89 in Birmingham, England:

“…American Top Team knockout artist Thiago “Pitbull” Alves is slated to return on Oct. 18 to face former “Ultimate Fighter” winner Diego Sanchez. The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight. There is currently a verbal agreement with actual bout agreements for the contest expected to be signed in the next few days.”

Diego “Nightmare” Sanchez (19-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) tarnished his unbeaten record for the first time in 2007, dropping back-to-back decisions to seasoned grapplers Josh Koshcheck and Jon Fitch. Sanchez would rebound in 2008, putting away David Bielkheden and most recently Luigi Fioravanti at The Ultimate Fighter 7 finale. Diego is a product of Greg Jackson’s submission fighting camp, and is known for his well-roundedness and tenacity inside the octagon. Sanchez holds notable wins over Joe Riggs, Karo Parisyan, Nick Diaz and Kenny Florian.

Thiago Alves (15-3 MMA, 8-2 UFC) is riding high off of a huge TKO victory over Matt Hughes at UFC 85, though the “Pitbull” was met with much criticism due to his inability to make weight for his bout with the former welterweight champion. Alves has showcased excellent Muay Thai and holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiutjitsu. Like his future opponent, Thiago has also succumbed to welterweight contender Jon Fitch in the past, and holds notable wins over Karo Parisyan, Chris Lytle and Marcus Davis.

It seems only natural that the winner of Alves-Sanchez be placed a heck of a lot closer to a shot at the coveted welterweight title, which will be on the line when champion George St. Pierre takes on Jon Fitch at UFC 87 “Seek and Destroy” this August.

UFC 89 features a 185 pound main event meeting between English native Michael “The Count” Bisping and hard hitting Chris “The Crippler” Leben.
