Anyone Scared

category

Any Cubs fans scared out there?

We have hit the all-star break (seemed really fast this year) and the Cubs are sitting 4.5 games up on the Cards and 5 games up on some other team people keep talking about…I think named the Brewers.  The Cubs have done this with missing Soriano for large chunks of time, and Zambrano missing some time as well.  Also the Cubs did this without Rich Harden!  and instead started the season with Rich Hill.  I for one am not scared of the Brewers or Cards at this point at all.  Sure CC Sabathia was a nice add for the Brewers but do you honestly think he alone will make up 5 games on the Cubs? especially after the fact the Cubs add Harden?  All Harden did in his debut was toss 5 innings and change and punch out 10 batters!  All I am scared about is what happens in the post season at this point.  I would still like to see the Cubs add another bat, however I am not sure they will.

I am just tickled pink with following things so far this season from the Cubbies.

1. Ryan Theriot - this guy has just been wonderful.

2. Fukudome - Yep that is right I am treating him like Ichiro and just rolling with the 1 fun name this guy has.  He is a wonderful player, has terrific at bats, and so far is exactly as advertised.  Very happy with his play.

3. Kerry Wood - Has done a wonderful job as the RP, and his biggest injury is a blister that should be healed up after the weekend!  Keep it going Kerry!

4. Carlos Marmol - I think he is the best setup man in baseball right now.  Anyone disagree?

5. Ryan Demspter - What can’t you say.  He is an all-star….seriously am I sleeping?

6. The Rich Harden trade - Happy Happy Joy Joy.  Brining in the gun slinger from B.C.  Harden is a wonderful talent who I look forward to watching at Wrigley for as long as possible.

Drop the Finale But Win the Series

category

The Cubs had a terrible game last night losing to the Reds at home, however they took 2 of 3 which always is the main thing.

Along with every other Cubs fan I was more curious about if Harden was making it around the dugout without tweaking something (that is the only jab I will give you Rich…for now).  But seriously I hate to look ahead but my eyes are fixed on the series at the end of the month with the Brewers.  Who else can’t wait to see how C.C. and Harden do against the Cubs and Brewers?

Next up for the Cubs is the Giants.  This should be a sweep, and I hope it is.  The Cubs will have to do battle with Cain, and Lincecum which will be tough though.  I am still going to call a sweep baby!

Oh ya and some guy named Harden gets his first start as a Cub this weekend…should be fun

Cubs Take Series

category

The Chicago Cubs got back on track with a series win over the dirty Cards.  This series was a must win I think and the Cubs delivered.  Chicago needed a pick me up series before the break to show they are still the best team in this division especially after the Brew crew picked up C.C. Sabathia from the Indians.

The main question from the weekend to me is are the Cubs still the best team in the NL or better yet are they even still the best team in their division.  The Cubs have some very good teams in the Brewers and Cards to contend with.  My second question is do the Cubs need to respond to this trade?  I would say yes.  I also said they should have been the team to go out and get C.C.  I honestly would of offered up Murton, Gallagher and Hill for his services.  So where do we look.  AJ Burnett has looked good lately in Toronto and is worth keeping an eye on.  Holliday in Colorado, Roberts in Baltimore, I really like the kid Snell in Pittsburgh and think he would be worth putting in a feeler on.  I think if you could add a Snell and maybe another bat this team would be the clear cut runner for the ring.  I still think the Cubs are the best team in the NL……anyone disagree??

In other news the Cubs are sending 7 players to the all-star game in NYC.  Soto, Fukudome, Soriano, Ramirez, Dempster, Zambrano and Wood.  Also Lou will be heading over to manage as well.  Fukudome and Soriano got the nod to start (it would be a miracle to see Alfonso play in the game)…this game could be a huge game for the Cubs so nice to see 7 of them their to try and win it.  The Cubs plan on going to the World Series and if they do they would love them home field advatage you get with winning this otherwise meaningless game.

Up next is Cincy!  I got my broom ready (Just don’t tell my fiance or she might make me actually use it around the house)
