MusicCityMadness: Sharks Bite Preds 4-1

The Predators came home from California on a high after 3 straight wins, but they couldn’t sustain any energy in their 3rd game in 4 nights against what probably is the best team in the Western Conference.

They were outhit and outworked.  Couple that with what was probably the worst officiated game of the season and that spells revenge for the Sharks who had a game stolen from them last week in San Jose by these same Predators.  To add insult to injury, Jason Arnott was driven into and over the goaltender by Joe Pavelski resulting in Arnott crashing into the back of the net head first and laying motionless on the ice for several minutes before he was carted off on a stretcher.  Arnott was released from the hospital later in the evening and appears to be ok.  No penalty was called on the play which was par for the course in this one.

There were four fights in the game with Greg de Vries and Jody Shelley going at it twice.  Scott Nichols matched up with Joe Thornton and held his own and Jordan Tootoo went with Brad Staubitz who backed away from a fight with Tootoo earlier.  Nashville should have dressed Nick Tarnasky.  Scott Nichols and Greg de Vries aren’t normally the enforcer type players you need to discourage a team from taking liberties.

The Preds only managed to register 5 shots on goal in the first period and were down 4-0 before they started to appear interested in the offensive side of things.  Dan Ellis made his 3rd start in 4 nights.  He was average at best last night giving up 2 weak goals.

David Legwand made an appearance and scored a shorthanded goal which was his 3rd of the season midway through the third period.

Despite 16 shots on goal, the powerplay ended up 0-6 for the night

Ville Koistinen had a rough night defensively so look for Kevin Kline to be in the lineup in Tampa

The Predators run a great promotion on Monday nights.  Any Military personnel, past or present, can purchase the best available seats to the game for $20.00 with ID.  It’s a great deal.  You can’t get lower bowl tickets to professional events for this price anywhere else

Dan Ellis was named the NHL’s Third Star for the week ending Sunday, November 16th.  He finished behind the Capitals, Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin

JP Dumont continues to lead the team with 20 points which includes 16 assists.  Shea Weber and Jason Arnott are tied for the goal lead with 8.  Shae Weber also leads the team with a plus 8

The Preds are back on the road with games in Tampa on Friday and Carolina on Sunday.
