Dustin Pedroia followed up his 2007 ROY campaign by winning the 2008 American League MVP.  Pedroia took 16 of a possible 28 first place votes which enabled him to easily beat out 2nd place vote getter Justin Moreneau by a tally of 317 to 257.

As usual there were a few peculiar ballots turned in by the writers, one of which left Pedroia off its ballot entirely and another one which had Angles closer Francisco Rodriguez as its top MVP pick.

This was the final award handed out by the BBWAA, and now the attention turns to the winter hot stove, which could be heating up as reports today suggest the Cubs have re-sign SP Ryan Dempster to a 4 year, 52 million dollar contract.

More to come on the baseball hotstove later this week….

I think they did a good job with both the AL and NL MVP. I would of picked the same 2 guys.

Gotta love the way the little guy “brings it” eveytime he gets to the ballpark.

The one that left Pedroia off was Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. I could see his argument, but in the DMN blog he did admit that he made a mistake. He says he shouldve included him in his top 5.

I liked his choice of Youkilis though. Its hard to argue with either of the Boston guys though.

Thanks for the info regarding Evan Grant Josh. That’s interesting that it was Grant who left Pedroia off, especially since he made some noise lately by calling out ESPN’s Rob Neyer when Neyer claimed Michael Young had no business winning a gold glove (Neyer was right on this if you check the stats).

At least he admitted making a mistake, but what changed his mind? How do you go from leaving a guy off entirely to saying “he should have been in my top 5″? I’ll search for the article and hopefully it’s explained in there.

I can’t really complain against Pedroia, but if I had to pick a Boston MVP it would have been Youkilis. I would of had them both behind Joe Mauer and Grady Sizmore (I’ve blogged about this already, and unless you are a big sabermetric guy or Keith Law, I’m sure you’ll question that selection) on my ballot. But Pedroia had a legit claim to the award and no one can take that away from him now. My only hope is somehow this motivates my boy Robinson Cano, lol
