Week Eleven - The Same Old Story

If you listen close enough, you can probably hear the groans coming from San Diego fans across the country.
The San Diego Chargers slim playoff hopes suffered a setback yesterday, with a last minute 11-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. It’s the same old story for this Chargers team, playing below their skill level and making too many mistakes. Let’s be honest, the Steelers were the better football team throughout the game and San Diego didn’t deserve to win. That being said, this was another game that San Diego COULD have won. The Chargers fought through the cold weather, a hostile environment, and a physical Steelers team to keep the game competitive. However, at the end of the day San Diego just couldn’t overcome their own stupid mistakes.
Thoughts and Notes
-I’ve always been a huge supporter of Philip Rivers throughout his career, but his performance yesterday was awful. The interception he threw before the end of the first half was inexcusable, and that mistake was a definite turning point in the game. Despite how well Rivers has played this season, we have seen too many mistakes from him during the past few weeks. You aren’t going to win many games in this league when your quarterback turns the ball over three different times.
-Although Rivers played an awful game, he didn’t exactly have a lot of help yesterday. Did the Chargers leave their WR’s back in San Diego, because Chambers, Vincent, Gates and Floyd certainly didn’t show up yesterday. The 4 combined for a pathetic 85 yards receiving on the day.
-The Chargers defence was……better today. We all know how important that goal line stand was, and they didn’t give up a touchdown all day. That being said, they allowed a lot of yards and once again failed to make a big stop late in the game.
-Do you know when the San Diego defence last held an opposing quarterback under 250 yards passing in a game? It was in week 6, when the Chargers played Matt Cassel and Patriots.
-The rushing touchdown for LT in the first quarter was his first since week 4.
-I think the Steelers Hines Ward is one of the most underrated WR’s in the league.
-The Chargers are now 0-3 on the east coast this season
-The San Diego Chargers will now host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night. These are two teams that are going in opposite directions, with the Chargers struggling and the Colts playing their best football of the season. That being said, I’m fairly confident that San Diego will win this game. If you want to find out why, or just make fun of me and call me crazy, be sure to check back during the middle of the week for my analysis of this upcoming match up.

Even though the Chargers are in my Raiders division, and I should hate them, I still don’t like to see a good team coached into the ground. Turner sucks, and it is a travisty that they let Shotty go, and I know that its been said before, but there is no way that the Chargers should be 4-6.
On a different note, I do however like watching Rivers loose. He is far too arrigant for my liking.
