KGB: What’s Bruin in Toronto Tonight

Bruins (10-3-4) at Maple Leafs (7-7-4) 730pm
How long do the Leafs give Vesa Toskala before he gets demoted to left bench? I say tonight is the last straw. Toskala hasn’t stolen any games for the Leafs this season, Toronto is second in the NHL in blocked shots, so VT isn’t seeing a lot of rubber. Leafs need to keep up with the pack before Tampa and Ottawa wake up and you know it’s going to happen.
- Toronto’s 4-2 win vs BOS on Oct. 23 is the Bruins only loss by more then 1G this season, and the Leafs 4th goal came into an empty net
- BOS has allowed 2 or fewer goals in 6 straight games and 8 out of their last 9
- TOR has scored 3 or more goals in 7 out of their last 9GP
- BOS is 7-2-3 at the ACC since the lockout ended, time for another lockout?
- BOS has 99 all-time regular season wins in TOR, there will be some red balloons released before the game.
- Thomas leads the NHL in sv% (.945) and GAA (1.76), the second coming of Pete Peeters? Peeters is the last Bruins goalie to lead the NHL in GAA.
- TOR ranks 27th in the NHL in GAA (3.39), that wouldn’t even be a good GAA back in the mid-80’s in the Smythe division.
- Stajan (2G, 8A) during a 6 game point streak, amazing what a benching does to one’s offensive ego.
- TOR has the worst PK in the NHL 72.2%, But the Leafs have the third fewest penalties in the league, so the glass half full says they aren’t use to playing shorthanded. Yeah we’ll go with that.
- Career game #700 tonight for Kaberle, and #500 for Hagman. I hear matching steak spoons will be presented. Congratulations
- Claude Julien is coaching his 100th game behind the Boston bench tonight. I wonder if he’ll wave his hands around ala Don Cherry in celebration?
- Schenn leads all rookies in hits with 47, outside of Cal Clutterbuck (46) who is a close second, no other rookie has more then 30 hits. Schenn needs to keep hitting and stop dropping the mittens. He can fight next season after he spends the summer back in Saskatchewan learing how to be a puck pugilist from Kelvington’s own Wendel Lee Clark.
- Grabovski is tied with Brassard in goals by a rookie (8). How is Grabovski a rookie you ask?? He barely qualifies. To not count as a rookie you would have to play 26 games in a prior single season, or play in at least 6 games in two straight seasons. Grabovski sneaks under the gun in both categories, or under the cross-bar I guess we should say.
