Capital Punishment: The Streak is Over

Well as I sit here, head still pounding from the night before, I can only look back at think what could have been. Playing back to back games with the Devis, sans Brodeur, you would think that the Caps would have been able to take both games since their snipers are heating up and they are playng goaltenders who either sit on the bench all year (Weeks) or spent the last two years playing games for the Toronto Marlies (Clemmensen ).
Regardless, the the pain the Caps must feel from losing to the pretty tame Devils seems high, especially when you let them score 5 goals. It was a pretty entertaining game, I have to say though. The Devils games are usually a bore to watch…kinda like all those nil-nil soccer games or watching paint dry, but last night was very entertaining. I thought it was all over for the Caps, but then when Ovechkin scored with 0.4 left in regulation to force the overtime it got good again. What are the Devils doing leaving the NHL’s purest scorer wide open in front of the net? That’s probably what the Devil’s coaches are thinking right now.
Ovechkin converted after some frantic action in front of the Devils’ net, the puck coming right to the left wing, who was all alone in front of a wide-open net. What I want to know is why the Caps didn’t put Backstrom in the shootout? The kid had 5 points in the game and he’s on the bench with the game on the line? I’m sure Boudreau had a hunch about Gordan. When he got harmlessly poke-checked to end the game and the Caps win streak, I’m positive Boudreau felt like that hunch may have been wrong.
That’s it for me, I need to hydrate after a pretty solid night out…for Capital Punishment, I’m Taylor Shold.
SEMIN SITS OUT: NHL scoring leader Alexander Semin sat out with an upper-body injury for the Caps. Semin, who leads the league in goals (13) and assists (14), was hurt in the 3-1 win over the Devils Friday. He shouldn’t miss much time.

If you call shotty defense an entertaining game then right you are my friend! Goals don’t always translate as exciting! The Devils could have run away with this game if not for the play of Theodore. The Devils were the harder working team and they got justice from the injustice that happened on Friday night as they could only muster the 1 goal. Sans Brodeur doesnt mean an easy win with Sutter at the helm and Lou watching from above there are never excuses!! that is why they are a the class organization they are, everyone is ACCOUNTABLE no matter what!
