Giants vs Ravens: Week 11 Preview

The New York Giants will host the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.  This match up will see the Giants, who have the number one rushing offense in the league face off against the Ravens who rank number one in rushing defense. This game should be a hard hitting affair as both teams bring in tough defenses that are capable of making game changing plays.
On the offensive side, Eli will be going up against rookie QB Joe Flacco. Flacco has led his team to a 6-3 record which has the Ravens tied with the Steelers on top of the NFC north. Flacco has been managing games well and it appears he is getting more confidence from head coach John Harbaugh to throw the ball. Baltimore has always been a run-first ball club, so I doubt Harbaugh will take a chance throwing a lot against a defense as good as the Giants. Eli will be going up against a tough defense and will have to rely on his o-line to protect him on passing plays if they are unable to get the ball moving with RB Brandon Jacobs. Teams that are good at stopping the run this season have had a hard time with the Giants. First off, Jacobs is just huge; he’s a different type of RB that defenses face all year and when he gets tired, the Giants just throw Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw at opponents. Baltimore’s defense will be challenged often and I don’t think they’ll be able to stop the Giants offense as they just have to many weapons.Â
Flacco will most likely be without his favourite receiver Derrick Mason. This means the Ravens will play a very conservative game of trying to run the ball and throw short yardage passes. The Giants defense should have no problem keeping the Ravens offense off the field and off the scoreboard. Unless Eli throws a couple of pick six, I see the Giants winning this battle by a score of 31-12.

Man the Giants have a tough schedule! Jacobs is huge but I think he might be a bit too slow to run on the Ravens D. This is about the only D out there that could shut him down. The other team Jacobs had a tough time running against was the Steelers and this will probably that type of game. I might have to bench him in favour of someone else…

Jeff, I agree with you that the Steelers did a great job of shutting down Jacobs and the Ravens might also have the same success. I think Eli will be relied on heavily and should be up for the task, I just hope his line plays well enough to let him.
