Week 11: Colts Schedule Favors Playoff Push

Last Sunday the Colts defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in what may have been the most important game of their season to date.
An interesting stat: the 24-20 victory by the Colts marked the third time this season the Colts have won after trailing by 10 points or more. In a recent interview, Coach Dungy stated that while he is happy with the offense’s ability to come back in games, the team cannot consistently put themselves in bad situations to begin games.
The Colts currently sit at 5-4 with 7 games to go on the season. After playing some tough games early, I believe that the rest of the Colts schedule favors their claiming a playoff spot. The Tennessee Titans currently hold a 4 game lead on the Colts; barring a major meltdown, the Titans should win the division for the first time in 6 years. Going forward, the Colts will be looking to capture one of the two wildcard spots available. To claim a wildcard spot, the average record in the AFC has usually been about 10-6.

Here is a look at what the Colts need to do in my opinion to get 5 wins and a playoff spot:
Â
Â
- With the league worst Cincinnati and Detroit on the schedule, the Colts will need to get wins against both of these teams. (2 wins)
- The Colts play three more division games against Houston, Tennessee and Jacksonville. With the Tennessee game coming at the last game of the year with the game possibly meaning nothing for the Titans, the Colts should take this game. The Colts also need to claim at least one win between Jacksonville and Houston. (2 wins)
- The other two Colts games will feature the Cleveland Browns and the San Diego Chargers. With both of these teams playing inconsistent this season, it is not a stretch to say the Colts win at least one of these games. (1 win)
Â
From my breakdown, it is obvious that the Colts have the schedule to go 5-2 at least for the rest of the season. While the NFL never goes as expected, this is just a little food for thought.

Stay tuned for my week 11 preview blog,
