Desert Hockey: Welcome to the valley

Hey guys just wanted to give a quick shout out, I’m sure many of you (hopefully) recognize the name as I have written for STB pretty much since its inception. The LA Angels and New England Patriots had league best records in my first year covering them. I am hoping to bring the Nich Hall-bump, if you will, to my newest challenge the Phoenix Coyotes.
You might be wondering why the Coyotes? Am I a huge a Gretzky fan? Not so much, in fact my tortured childhood (well kind of) included a certain high stick that may or may not have been blatantly missed by Kerry Fraser. But my psychiatrist tells me talking about it only gives it life.
Am I a big Kitchener Rangers fan who is following Mikkel Boedker on his path to NHL stardom? Again not so much, Boedker was actually a part of my tortured summer in which his Rangers knocked my Belleville Bulls out of the Memorial Cup with a 9-0 semi-final shellacking. You know that feeling when you get really pumped up for a big game and your team gets annihilated, not fun.
Anyways the real reason I chose the Coyotes is they’re an exciting young hockey club that will with the right pieces be going places in the not so distant future. Hopefully the ‘Yotes and STB will grow in front of our eyes over the coming months and years.
Looking forward to being with you guys and girls every step of the way.

Thanks for being the first to submit a hockey post Nich! Totally looking forward to reading a lot of coverage for a team that rarely generates headlines! I think you’re climbing a greasy pole with this team, but it’s a friggin amazing group of youth that the “desert dogs” have assembled, and it should be very entertaining watching the core develop.
Shane Doan? Who cares!!! Let’s watch Martin Hanzal, Mikkel Boedker, and company develop! Rebuilds take time, and this team is on the right track… Let’s see how long the process takes…
