Week 10 Aftermath: Bears No Match For Titans

Although the Bears (5-4) fell to the undefeated Tennessee Titans this week, looking back it could of definitely been a lot worse.  Considering Rex Grossman got the start due to Kyle Orton’s ankle injury, he held his game together for the majority of the game.  It seemed to fall apart just a little in the dying minutes of the 4th quarter, when the Bears had the ball and were making one last push down the field.  Unable to capitalize, the final score was 21-14 for the Titans.  The Bears are now tied for the NFC North lead with the Minnesota Vikings, who edged Green Bay by a single point yesterday afternoon.  Although they lost, there were some positives that came from the game:

1) Play A Full 60 Minutes: Hates off to Urlacher and the Boys, who continued their strong play from last week’s 2nd half, and stretched it out over all four quarters this week.  The Bears were still in the game largely in part to the defense, who sacked Kerry Collins with 4 minutes left, almost causing a fumble.  The Titans ended up going 3 and out, having to punt to the Bears with plenty of time on the clock to make one last push.  Hopefully, the defense can play more consistently, and use this game as a perfect example.

2) Stop the Run: Rookie RB Chris Johnson and LenDale were virtually invisible Sunday, which proved that the Bears are indeed one of, if not the best run defense in the league today.  The Titans ran for only 20 yards, with a short run touchdown coming from LenDale in the second half.  Stopping this tandem was crucial for the Bears to stick around in the game.

3) Protect the QB: Although Kyle Orton was optimistic he would start Sunday, reality kicked in and he indeed sat out, giving the ball to last year’s starter T-Rex “Hear Me Roar” Grossman.  Grossman surprisingly held his own, throwing only one interception that didn’t really lead to anything, while throwing for over 150 yards and a touchdown.  For the second straight week, Grossman called his own number on the goal line and ran it in.  The Bears offensive line did a superb job in giving Rex enough time to get his passes off and look down the field.

- Matt Forte was his usual self, I almost don’t need to blog about him anymore as the guy is the most consistent Bear, and probably one of the most consistent players in the NFL.  Running for 70 yards and a TD, while catching another 50 yards, he is the real deal.

- Devin Hester is finally taking over as the #1 receiver, as he was Grossman’s receiver of choice on Sunday, getting 4 catches for 50+ yards.  Now if only he could get his punt returning skills back…

See you Wednesday,

-Will

Oh so true. Grossman engineered that opening drive and after that he 6 three and outs on the next 9 possessions, personally I thought he was garbage!

Love the breakdown William on the season at the bottom of the blog.

It is very clear to me that Grossman is not a starter in this league. His decision is average at best. The offense plays with much more confidence with Orton behind center.
