Be honest now: Did you ever envision at the start of the season that, at this point, the Jets would be battling the Patriots for the division lead and that the Jets may actually be FAVORED in the contest?
I sure didn’t…and today, though I am not a religious man by any means, I have the words of the apostle Matthew ringing in my ears: “Oh, ye of little faith.”
The Jets are now riding the momentum of a three game winning streak. Thomas Jones, after recording only one touchdown all of last season, scored three yesterday to add to his total of eight for this year. Brett Favre managed to go an entire game without an interception, something he hasn’t done since September 7 against Miami. The defense held an opponent under ten points for the first time in recent memory.
Favre had this comment on yesterday’s performance: “It’s proof positive of what this team is capable of being.”
Fantastic.
Where has this version of Gang Green been and how long can they stay?
Jets analysis:
Â
Offense: Favre had an improbably pedestrian day considering the final score, but he was efficient and paved the way to victory….Jones showed that, against the right opponent, he can be an elite option at running back. He is currently on track to rush for more than1,300 yards this season, something he has done only once before in his career…Extremely quiet day for Jets receivers. Jerricho Cotchery and Laveranues Coles notched only one catch each….TE Dustin Keller had a monster day, nabbing six receptions for 107 yards. Both achievements were career highs for him.
Defense: The Jets defense had a tremendous game, allowing St. Louis only 200 total yards on the day….LB Calvin Pace recorded three tackles, half a sack and returned a fumble for a touchdown….CB’s Darrelle Revis and Dwight Lowery completely shut down the Rams’ Torry Holt and Donnie Avery, who managed only three catches between the two of them….Hank Poteat and Kerry Rhodes snagged interceptions.
Overall: Gang Green is brimming with confidence at the moment and their optimism is justified. If they are able to topple New England on Thursday, their chances of making the playoffs grow exponentially. They must remember what has gotten them to this point and replicate the effort for the rest of the season.

Too many blowouts for this Rams team so far this season. 40-0 at the half is actually worse than the Cards 34-0 beat down by the Jets at halftime. Jets are feasting on the NFC West though, I am not so sure the Jets are as good as their record.
