Quick Falcons’ Week 10 Preview

So, where do we start with this week’s matchup?  I guess we could start by comparing records, which is likely the least significant thing to look at, but at this stage is somewhat lop-sided in Atlanta’s favour, so I think it’s noteworthy…

First off, the Falcons have a 5-3 record, compared to the Saints’ 4-4, so that’s not staggering, and in fact makes the game far more important in the standings point of view.

Against the division, Atlanta sits at 0-2 while New Orleans has a 1-1 split.  Slight edge to the Saints.

On home turf, the Falcons have been impressive, collecting a spotless 3-0 record.  The Saints, conversely, have not won on the road yet, and are 0-3.  Score a big one for the Birds…

Anyway, I think it’ll be a very close game, and I’m kind of afraid of that Saints offence, which leads the NFL in total yards and passing yards.  Atlanta leads in rushing yards, and I expect we’ll see them doing a lot of groundwork.  The biggest test will be for the secondary, as the Falcons have the bad habit of getting burned for big plays, and that’s a killer against Drew Brees and company.

I think if the Saints get up by any sizeable margin, it’ll be time to test my new offensive strategy.  It involves the lateral.  Basically, I’m a big believer that it is an under-used play, and as such, would have tremendous shock-value-potential.  I’m going to suggest that the Falcons do at least one lateral on EVERY offensive play that they run until they catch up with New Orleans.  This includes EVERY fourth down, as the Saints will probably be busy putting up more points on our kick-offs from all the touchdowns we’ll be scoring.  Let’s face it.  Nobody expects another human being of making the same mistake over-and-over-and-over forever, right?  So, we fool them by doing just THAT!
