Week Ten - Chargers & Chiefs

It wasn’t supposed to be like this for the San Diego Chargers, a team that was mentioned among the pre season Super Bowl favorites. The Chargers have dealt with a lot of adversity through the first eight weeks of the season, but there now seems to be a sense of optimism around the Chargers organization. How can a team that has played so poorly thus far be optimistic about the rest of the season? Well………

- If San Diego wins on Sunday, they will be only one game back of first place in the AFC West.

- LaDainian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates are both close to being 100% for the first time this season.

- San Diego will play five of their remaining eight games at home.

- Since 2004, San Diego is 12-2 in the month of November.

- Ted Cottrell is no longer the Defensive Coordinator.

Although these stats are nice, they won’t mean anything unless San Diego starts winning football games. The Chargers hope that a victory against a struggling division rival is just the catalyst this team needs to begin a late season playoff push. The Chiefs have been playing better of late, but this is still a football team that has lost 16 out of their last 17 games. The Chargers high octane offence should have plenty of chances against a Chiefs D that has been torched on multiple occasions this season (The Chiefs are allowing an average of 27.9 points per game against), and it will be interesting to see what a healthy LT can do against them on Sunday.

Game Notes

- I expect that we will see WR Chris Chambers and CB Antonio Cromartie play on Sunday, but both players have been dealing with nagging injuries during the bye week.

- It should be exciting to see what strategy Ron Rivera unleashes against a young Chiefs offence, I have a feeling that we will see the Chargers defence utilize a lot of new blitz schemes

- The Chargers have won 4 out of their last 5 games in which they are coming off a bye week

- Tomlinson has rushed for at least 100 yards in each of his last three games against the Chiefs

- The Chiefs lead the all time series 50-44-1

Funny because this division really is bad when you think of a SD win puts them one game out. Imagine Denver hadnt of won Thursday night!!!!
