Hawk Talk - Dolphins Preview

This one will be quick as I am out of town on business, I was suprised when preparing this blog that the Dolphins are not a good running team, and have been really winning games with the pass. For some reason my image of the team was that they were a very good running team with a trick offense in the wildcat that can create big plays. The reality is that Chad Pennington and the Dolphins are a real good passing team that can spread you out and that the Wildcat is more a tool to open running lanes on a relatively weak offensive line.
Keys to Victory
Offense
Run first, throw later diffcult task as the Fins are very good against the run but have been exposed against a good pass attack the problem for us is that we have a good run and very medicore passing attack. We have to be able to establish a run or at least stay with it if we are to stay in this game. The ability to sell play action will be key otherwise the Fins will be coming for Seneca every down.
Defense
Secondary is the key, the Fins have been able to create alot of big plays with Ted Ginn jr. we have to find away to keep him under the one hundred yards receiving mark, as a team we have at times proved to be solid against even a good running attack. Our gameplan must be to make the Fins beat us on the ground.
Prediction
The Dolphins take this as they are a bad matchup for our team at this point they are very strong defensively against the run which neutralizes our strength and on offense are very effective passing and are defensive struggles are much worse in the secondary than upfront.

Seattle really hasn’t run the ball that well this year have they? Do you think that is more related to the fact that they simply struggle to do so, or because they are always playing from behind?

Tim common misconception that we haven’t run the ball well, both Mo Morris and Julius Jones are averaging 4.5 per carry or greater but both have low carrying totals Jones only 113 attempts and Mo only 35 we have been able to run the ball on pretty well any team we have faced but Coach Holmgren insists on this pass first mentality. I think if we played a more East coast style of football ran the ball 60% of the time or more and used play action to open our passing game there is no question in my mind we have a slightly better record than we do now

Teams have passed the ball well on Miami so that could prove to be good for Seattle. Seneca though is not that efficient a passer. Running game doesnt hurt either.

If Seneca get’s time I think he can hurt the Fins to provide that we need to run the ball and use play action to create openings and keep Joey Porter off Seneca every down, if we try this spread you pass attack the Fins will blitz succesfully nearly every down
