Week 10: Steelers (6-2) vs Indianapolis (4-4)

I have not updated my blog due to time constraints, since the big victory over the Washington Redskins, so I’ll recap that game in two words. Defensive Domination!!!

This week the Steelers take on the Indy Colts and Payton Manning. Once again the Steelers suffered some key injuries last week in TE Heath Miller and most importantly Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben re-injured his shoulder on a quarterback sneak that resulted in a touchdown. Despite sitting out the second half on Monday night and no taking part in practice, today said he wants to play. Another injury note had Willie Parker missing a second straight practice, but this time with a shoulder injury. Miller is listed as out, whereas Parker and Big Ben are doubtful. We’ll see what unfolds, but coach Tomlin is keeping things pretty mum on the injury front. If Ben can’t go, Byron Leftwich will make the start. Leftwich came in for Ben last week and paid dividends immediately. He was able to move the ball far more effectively than Roethlisberger.

The Steelers can take a strangle hold on their playoff lives with a victory over the Colts and in the same breath, put the Colts playoff hopes almost on ice. To win this game the Steelers defence will have to be as dominant as last week. You would think it should be the defence on the limp after the amount of time they have spent the field. Roethlisberger vowed today that he will play better and the offence hasn’t been good thus far.

Here’s how the Steelers stack up against the Colts statistically:

IND 22ND OFF; PIT 1ST DEF

IND 32ND RUN; PIT 3RD VS. RUN

IND 8TH PASS; PIT 1ST VS. PASS

IND 23RD PTS; PIT 2ND PTS ALLOWED

PIT 25TH OFF; IND 15TH DEF

PIT 18TH RUN; IND 25TH VS. RUN

PIT 24TH PASS; IND 3RD VS. PASS

PIT 16TH PTS; IND 16TH PTS ALLOWED

PIT 18TH TO/TA; IND 9TH TO/TA

BEN ROETHLISBERGER IS COMING OFF HIS LOWEST COMPLETION PERCENTAGE GAME (44.8) SINCE 2005.

PIT AND IND HAVE COMBINED FOR 8 POSTSEASON VICTORIES THE PAST 3 SEASONS.

MEWELDE MOORE IS AVERAGING 101 RUSHING YARDS THE PAST 3 GAMES.

ANTHONY GONZALEZ EQUALED HIS TD PRODUCTION OF THE SEASON WITH 2 TD’S LAST WEEK.

IND IS AVERAGING 70.1 YARDS RUSHING.

Like every week, the Steelers are in tough as the Colts are fighting for their playoff lives. The defence for the Steelers will be counted on again to win this game, as I think the offence will only muster up enough points to win. My prediction is a close one. Steelers 17 Indy 16 with a last seconds field goal.

I see Willie Parker is out again, this doesnt help the Steelers especially if Big Ben is out too!

With the emergence of Moore, this doesn’t hurt as much as it would have earlier, but it still hurts. I don’t think Big Ben shoudl play wither, but knowing him, I’d be more surprised if he doesn’t play.
