Week 10 Preview: Bears Go Up Against The Best

The Bears (5-3) round out their three game homestand this Sunday against the still undefeated Tennessee Titans. This is a huge test for the Bears who are looking to stay a game ahead of the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North. With Brandon Lloyd returning to the lineup, and starting QB possibly being given the green light to play, the Bears will be a healthy squad heading into Sunday. The Titans have been cutting it closer with each passing week, so hopefully if the Bears commit to the Keys of the Game, a victory will be in order:
1) Play a Full 60 Minutes: The Bears defense was simply stunned in the 2nd quarter last week against the Detroit Lions, it was as if they completely forgot how to play the game. Luckily, with a solid performance in the last two quarters, they were able to rally and come out with the win. If Urlacher and the Boys can take the second half from last week’s game, and stretch it out into four solid quarters, the Bears will definitely have a chance to win.
2) Stop the Run: It will be the #3 rushing offense against the #6 rushing defense this week, the Bears will have their hands full for sure. Rookie RB Chris Johnson has had a standout campaign, while LenDale White has been very impressive as well; both will need to be stopped if Chicago wants to stay in the game.
3) Protect the QB: If QB Kyle Orton does indeed play this Sunday, there is no doubt the Titans defense will be looking for him. Hopefully Orton will learn to stay in the pocket (not that QB rushing is a bad thing but Orton is not the running type). If Orton sits, the ball goes to Rex ‘My Favourite Bear’ Grossman. The defense will want to give Grossman some extra time in the pocket, as he has been on the bench all season and may be a little slow in terms of reaction time.
- Kyle Orton did not practice Wednesday or Thursday, and will most likely be a gameday decision with his ankle sprain.
- Look for RB Matt Forte to be named NFL Rookie of the Week, he posted his best numbers of the season, and is more than deserving based on his play thus far.
For an opinion on this game from the Titans perspective, head on over to Victor Minicozzi’s preview.
I threw out this question in my midweek blog, and I’ll put it out there again; Bears fans, how happy are you with Chicago’s play heading into Week 10?
GO BEARS!
