Jets-Rams Preview

Recipe for a “Trap Game”

1 Team coming off a huge win against a division rival

1 Team that has played poorly throughout the year but now has a new coach and a new attitude

½ cup of a Hall of Fame quarterback whose touchdown to interception ratio over the last four games is a miserable 3:8

A dash of overconfidence by a group that has not proven anything yet

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a large stadium. Mix thoroughly, bake for 60 minutes.

Serves the entire Jets fanbase….and could potentially make them all sick.

Keys to winning the game:

Offense:

1. Momentum is King- QB Brett Favre is clearly off his game right now, as evidenced by the abundance of interceptions. St. Louis does not boast a very strong defense right now, but they do have 18 sacks and 6 interceptions. If Favre does not play well again, he could turn the ball over numerous times and destroy any momentum the Jets have.

2. Mix and Match- Thomas Jones is clearly the number one guy in town, but this is a perfect game to take advantage of spelling him more frequently with Leon Washington. The little guy is quick and has the ability to break a long one against the slow defense of the Rams.

 Defense:

1. Keep a man deep- St. Louis WR Donnie Avery possesses the speed of a cheetah and will burn the defense on a post pattern if they’re not prepared. Torry Holt is not the receiving threat he once was and he should be shut down by Darrelle Revis one on one. Therefore, there’s no reason to roll coverage one way or the other. They simply need to guard against the deep post at all times.

2. Knock Bulger around- Marc Bulger has never been known to be the sturdiest of quarterbacks. Even if the Jets pass rush doesn’t sack him, they need to at least hit him on just about every pass play. Play him physically and he’ll start to rush his throws. If he is given time to throw, Bulger can pick apart most defenses.

Final Analysis: The Rams are 2-6, on the road and may be without their primary weapon, RB Steven Jackson. The Jets should make a statement in this game because, at the end of the day, the only way they lose this game is by beating themselves.

Jets 27, Rams 13
