The Baltimore Ravens beat the Cleveland Browns 37-27 on Sunday in Cleveland. The win puts the Ravens at 5-3 on the season. If the Steelers lose to the Redskins on Monday the Ravens will be tied for first in the division. The Ravens won the game with great efforts from both sides of the ball. The offense moved the ball effectively all game and the defense came up big when needed. QB Joe Flacco had another impressive game leading the offense and managing the game well. RB Willis McGahee was dressed but he did not get one carry all game. RB Ray Rice filled in. Rice had an amazing game rushing for 154 yards on 21 carries. Career highs for Rice in Rushing attempts and rushing yards. FB Le’ron McClain also filled in for McGhee’s absence posting 14 carries for 34 yards and 1 touchdown. The defense for the Ravens had a solid game forcing the Browns to a lot of three and outs mostly in the fourth quarter. The Ravens defense prevented a Browns fourth quarter comeback.

The Ravens started the scoring on their first drive with a 41-yard field goal. On ensuing Browns drive the Ravens picked up a fumble. CB Evan Oglesby recovered the fumble. The Fumble led to the Ravens first touchdown of the game. The touchdown was a 47-yard pass form Flacco to WR Mark Clayton. On the ensuing kick-off the Browns KR Joshua Cribbs had a 92-yard touchdown return. This put the game at 10-7 for the Ravens going into the second quarter. The Browns put the game at 10-10 with a 23-yard field goal. The Ravens added a field goal of their own set up by a key third down pass from Flacco to Mason and a big run by Ray Rice. The field goal was a 32-yarder. The Browns finished the scoring in the first half with a 54-yard field goal. It was a great kick by K Phil Dawson of the Browns and cleared the uprights easily. The ball probably could have gone for another 10 yards.

To start off the second half the Browns scored their second touchdown of the game from a 28-yard pass, Anderson to WR Braylon Edwards. On the next Browns possession they scored another touchdown on a screen pass, 7 yards form Anderson to RB Jason Wright. Good movement from the Ravens put them only seven behind the Browns on a 1-yard touchdown run by FB Le’ron McClain. The game was notched at 27-20 for the Ravens at the end of the third quarter. The Ravens simply dominated the fourth quarter. To start things off QB Flacco had a 28-yard pass to WR Derrick Mason to tie the game at 27-27. The touchdown pass came on a play where the Browns lined up 9 guys in the box. Mason got by one cornerback and then he was home free. The Ravens then took the lead on a 22-yard field goal. The field goal came after a 60-yard run by rookie RB Ray Rice. The game was put out of reach late in the fourth quarter when LB Terrell Suggs picked off QB Derek Anderson and returned it 42-yards for the touchdown. The final score was Ravens 37 and Browns 27.

It was a stellar game for the Ravens offence being down two touchdowns and then coming back with two of their own. The Ravens had a relatively balanced attack between the run and pass. QB Joe Flacco had another good game this week. The game is finally slowing down for Flacco and he is not rushing things. Flacco finished 17 of 29 for 248 yards and two touchdowns. WR Mark Clayton and WR Derrick Mason both had good games. Mason finished with 9 receptions for 136 yards and 1 TD. Clayton finished with 4 receptions for 87 yards and 1 TD. TE Todd Heap did not get one reception. Heap was mostly blocking the whole game. RB Ray Rice and FB Le’ron McClain filled in nicely for the injured McGahee. Rookie Rice is finally getting more involved in the Ravens offence and he is finally showing the Ravens what he can do. The young Ravens offensive line had another good performance and continued to protect Flacco. The Ravens defence had an amazing performance and I think the Browns wouldn’t have scored a TD if it weren’t for their special teams. The Ravens forced the Browns to 3 and out on pretty much every drive in the fourth quarter. CB Fabian Washington didn’t have a good game though. He wasn’t playing press coverage and was playing to far off the receiver. Overall it was a good performance from the Ravens and it came from both sides of the ball.

Ray Rice was a stud today! Flacco is starting to get a little more consistent too. With the Ravens D, they are really starting to separate themselves from the pretenders and becoming a contender in the AFC!

You should be ashamed of yourselves for corrupting my boxed out lottery picks this week… I coulda have made hella-cash, but instead need to wonder about where I’ll be able to afford bread tomorrow to feed by 34 kids…

(editor’s note: I don’t have 34 kids, and also missed the call on jacksonville, so don’t feel too bad… only cost me a $225 payout on 7 game spread ticket)
