Jags Go 0-For-Ohio

Every dog has their day.  A notable truism of the NFL (and the primary reason I don’t make my living betting in Vegas) is that conclusions based on past performances, however convincing, often end up being wrong when a team suddenly and unexpectedly turns a corner.  The Bengals finally got on the board with their first win and my predictions about the production of fill-in QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Cincy running game were both way off.  What made the non-playoff-participating Bengal fans go home happy had the effect of making the Jaguars seem like a longshot now to make the playoffs at 3-5.  While a turnaround is certainly possible, the storm clouds are nonetheless beginning to gather above Jacksonville.

Its becoming increasingly obvious that the patchwork offensive line is the Achilles heel of the Jaguars, as once again the running game went nowhere.  Still, the Jags come-from-behind effort finished one 2-point conversion away from a last minute tie.  Interestingly, the Jaguars are the only team in the NFL who have seen every one of their games this season determined by seven points or less.  To me this points to QB David Garrard as the one person who could and perhaps should have made more of a difference this season.   Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s an elite quarterback in the league and I’d rather have him as my signal caller than a lot of the other stiffs in the league.  But if the Jaguars as currently constituted are to be successful and/or resuscitate their season they need more from Garrard than they are getting.

After back-to-back losses to Cleveland and Cincy coming off their bye week, the Jags now will face the mockery of bailing out two winless teams in a row if they blow next week’s game in Detroit.  The “easy” part of their schedule, instead of allowing the Jaguars to get fat, have instead demonstrated how far they have fallen.

Agreed on the OL for sure Mark! No running game is making them very one dimensional and when Matt Jones is your leading receiver, ouch, enough said!

The Jaguars will go down in infamy as the team that allowed the Bungles a win… Jim Rome is the most heralded champion of the “reverse-perfect-season”, and I’ll be damned if we let Jacksonville besmirch his reputation and image… Next week’s game against Detroit (now apparently with Daunte Culpepper) is being cancelled to prevent the Jags screwing things up again!!! Or, at least it should be…

Oh too funny about Rome! Culpepper wont win next week behind center with his lame duck balls that he throws.

Gotta believe that the Jags have their backs against the wall and will be fighting for their pride (and possibly Del Rio’s job!) A loss to Detroit would be devastating and one would think they would pull out all the stops to avoid that indignity. I would think they have enough in the tank to come up with a win…
