Showdown Saturday on National College Football Day

This Saturday marks the fifth annual National College Football Day. National College Football Day, observed on the first Saturday of November, was created by the AT&T Cotton Bowl five years ago as a way to pay tribute to a significant moment in our nation’s history. On Nov. 6, 1869, Rutgers defeated Princeton, 6-4 in the first ever U.S. intercollegiate football game.

To celebrate a full slate of college football is highlighted by two titanic clashes with BCS implications in arguably the two best conferences in football, the SEC and Big 12. At 3:30 on CBS the “World’s Biggest &^#@#!&l Party” is an impromptu play-in game into the SEC Championship game between #5 Florida and #8 Georgia. Both of these clubs need to win out and beat #2 Alabama in the SEC title game if they have any hope of a BCS Championship this season. This intense rivalry game played in Jacksonville, FL an always spirited affair will have some extra flair after last seasons unorthodox touchdown celebration from the Georgia Bulldogs.

After watching the Gators absolutely annihilate Kentucky and LSU I think this fired up team which no doubt remembers this celebration will roll in Jacksonville.

Florida 45 Georgia 31

After the SEC rivals duke it out football fans will have about an half hour to recuperate before arguably the biggest game in Texas Tech history. The undefeated #7 Red Raiders will host the #1 Texas Longhorns on ABC at 8 PM. In an explosive offensive conference this season, this game has the potential to be a highly entertaining shootout. The ‘Horns led by Heisman hopeful Colt McCoy will look to continue Texas’ domination of the state and conference. But I like the Raiders in this game, Mike Leach finally has a defense to complement his passing attack. This is without a doubt a crossroads in this Texas Tech programs history, bowl games and offensive records are nice but this is Tech’s chance to make a national name for itself. Much like the Titans/Colts Monday nigh game this is a chance for a “little brother” to finally win a game. It’s hard to imagine the Red Raiders will ever get a better chance then tomorrow.

Texas Tech 49 Texas 41

Enjoy the games and the creation some 139 years in the making that is College Football.

I like the Gators this weekend but I think Texas finds a way to win in Lubbock, Longhorns are the best defense the Red Raiders have faced all year.

those two will be great games, how the OU/Huskers rivalry has faded, OU favoured by 3 TD’s, so sad.
