Steelers lose more than the game against Giants

The Steelers had the game within their grasp, but the ineffectiveness of the offence to take advantage of the ball foiled their opportunity. The defence certainly did their job, by holding the Giants to 3 field goals in the first half, when it could’ve been 4 majors.

The Steelers luck did not go up from their. After losing their long snapper Greg Warren to a knee injury, they decided to go with linebacker James Harrison as their long snapper. This decision did not pay off in the least. Harrison’s first attempt at snapping the ball sailed long over the head of injured punter Mitch Berger, resulting in a safety and notching the game up at 14-14. That seemed to take the wind out of the Steelers sails and they went on to lose a game they should have won 21-14. The Steelers Aaron Smith also played with a heavy heart. His team mates really wanted to win this one for him. I would also like to make a note to Steelers management. Lock this guy up long term and do it now!!! The heart and courage, not to mention the leadership, is something we don’t want to lose.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, had a shaky day. His decision making just wasn’t up to his standards and as a result, he threw four interceptions. It wasn’t from a result of bad pass coverage either. The offensive line actually had a pretty decent game. Ben just held onto the ball too long and the receivers didn’t get open. A lot of the blame has to be passed onto Santonio Holmes, who was inactive, due to drug charges. Not only could they have used him, but he brought upon the team, a distraction that was not needed. Santonio gets a “A+” on the stupid meter for this move, he better atone himself when he’s back in the line up.

In the trenches, the Steelers also lost free safety Ryan Clark to a dislocated shoulder. It’s not known how long he will remain out of the line up. The Steelers have brought in 4 long snappers to try out for the job, as Warren will be lost for the season. They have also brought in punter Ricky Schmitt, from Shepherd University, in case Berger is unable to go. The Steelers are expecting the return of Willie Parker, but I won’t hold my breath for that to happen. Parker has experienced set-backs in both the past two weeks in attempting to return.

I will be back later in the week with a game preview.

It looks like the Steelers have their hands full with a lot of tough contest the rest of the year. Once they get Willie back they should be able to pound the ball more. Moore has been great but Willie can break for a long one at any point of the game.
