Reed Out Indefinitely

The Bills have yet to experience an injury of epic proportions thus far this season, but Josh Reed being lost for upwards of a month, and perhaps the season, would certainly classify.

With James Hardy’s progression slower than many may had hoped for, and very little experience beyond Evans and Parrish at the wide-out position, Buffalo may need the tight end unit to ante up in Reed’s absence.  This may be a tall order, considering Robert Royal has not been a real model of consistency during his tenure in Buffalo (unless you consider the fact that he has consistently made critical mental errors on a regular basis).  Moreover, 4th round pick out of Kansas, Derek Fine, has missed the first 7-games of his rookie campaign with a finger injury suffered during the pre-season, making him an unlikely option to fill the void as well.

Either way, the Bills are going to be without a key weapon on their offense for the foreseeable future, and will undoubtedly need some younger players to pick up some of the slack.  I have to think that with the role Reed played, Steve Johnson may have a shot to make the biggest leap in terms of production.  Johnson, who has been inactive for all but 2 games this year, is more similar to Reed’s mold than Hardy, and will leap frog Jenkins on the depth chart at receiver.

Reed was 2nd on the team with 26 receptions, and 288-yards.  He has overcome what were 2 very bad seasons a few years back, and has turned into one of Trent Edwards’ favorite targets.  All Buffalo fans can hope for is a speedy recovery.  I’ll have more information as it becomes available.  Until then…

Go Bills!

Well, as you well know, there is a learning curve for receivers. However, I still expected him to be more of a factor inside the red zone, and in some ways he still has been, in that he is keeping attention away from other players who are scoring red-zone touchdowns. On the other hand, I think it could be more a result of a lack of confidence in his ability to simply hang onto the ball. he has been able to make a couple of very tough catches, but has dropped upwards of 5-6 passes between the 20’s. He needs to become a little more sure handed, and I’m sure that will come with an increase in self-confidence as well.

Whatever the reason, it better start getting fixed now, otherwise Buffalo are in big trouble. They need him now!
