Hawk Talk - Signs of Life

I know the Hawks were not facing top competition by any means but we will take it, especially away from Qwest Field. With 2 games remaining still with Arizona it’s not out of the question that this team could make a run back to playoff contention but certainly a bit unrealistic.

Finally we get some big plays a forced fumble that became points that Patrick Kerney picked and rumbled to the 5, then Josh Wilson interception returned for a touchdown. Then the improbable play by Leonard Weaver, first Seahawk to go over 100 yard receiving in a game this season.

It is unrealistic to think you can win like that very often…

Here is what I liked about our game

Seneca Wallace, made the right decisions and did a very good job getting the ball out and not making the bad decision, didn’t turn the ball over, healthy or not Matt Hasselbeck may not be this teams stater anymore.

Our defense, Julian Peterson and Josh Wilson stood out but overall best defensive effort this year, 5 sacks and were very good to keep points off the board as they wer on the field a lot; the offense got points quickly.

The Multi pronged running and passing attack in the backfield, in the pre-season I got the feeling from the coaching staff every back would have some chances and today we were able to make some plays in the passing game.

Also quick note I happen to like Coach Singletary taking Vernon Davis out of the game for the junk, obviously frustrated he got into after a play with a few Seahawks getting flagged for the unsportsmanlike conduct. Coach Singletary had a few choice words for Vernon, Vernon wanted to argue, and Mike reminded him it wasn;t a democracy and benched Vernon for the game. Class move by a class coach…

Seahawks had a presence with Seneca at QB today that I havent seen all season. They played inspired ball for sure. You never know, they are still 2 games out and anything can happen in this division.

really 6 carries for 9 yards for jones, that’s it.

I have to admit that I have never been a fan of a 3-back system. It doesn’t allow one back to get into any type of rythem. I believe Jones is the best, and he should be getting the bulk of the carries.

Either way, despite the lack of a real running game, like Terry said, Wallace got the job done.

I know, considering he has been there best back it makes no sense. I can see the 2 back system but 3 is a bit much for the professional level.

Well I think we all agree on that one for sure, 3 backs just makes no sense at all, this is not college. At any level you almost never hear of 3 backs. Julius Jones was signed to that big deal for a reason, get him the damn ball. lol.

especially with 2 games left with Zona, but we have yet to show any consistency

yes he broke one for 14 yards so on a couple of carries he lost yards, the niners played 8 man front nearly every time he was in there remember he had a huge game in a loss aginst them last time, one of the few adjustments we made all year was to use Jones as a decoy for most of the game

Myself I never really liked the three back attack either but Jones is the main weapon but struggles at times with consistency, Mo Morris is underated and now that he’s healthy can make a real contribution, and Duckett is really just short yardage.

With the right people and plan it can work remember the Raiders with there Allen and Jackson backfield or Tim your Bills with the Lynch and Jackson Backfield

It really is a two back system Mo Morris and Julius Jones, TJ Duckett was brought in, in case of injury which we have had to Mo Morris and for short yardage.

Believe me were trying to get Julius the rock in positions to make plays but right now other teams think one thing to stop our offense stop Julius Jones, until we cange that it’s going to be tough as he gets alot of focus

Well if Larry Johnson is ever active again Jones is sitting for me.

I like the Bills attack, mainly because Lynch is the focal point. Jackson is the change of pace back, and gets roughly 5-7 carries a game. Lynch is still the workhorse, as he should be.

I suppose with Duckett just being the short yardage guy though, Morris and Jones can split duties fairly evenly.

    Terry Shilton Says:

Tim I agree that Jackson adds a nice change of pace and i like the Bills attack, we use the multi back to protect from breakdowns both the Bills back have proven consistency, but I like the multi back attack for us as Morris and Jones are both very good at times and very average; this way we can ride the one having the better day.

Also for both teams using multiple options keeps the feature fresh and extends their career because other than Ladanian Tomlinson most feature backs break down quickly, Joseph Addai, Larry Johnson, Willis Mcgahee among others all are now suffering from getting those 30 carries or so a game.
