Will the real Dallas Cowboys please stand-up!!

The Dallas Cowboy team that started this 2008-2009 NFL season is certainly not the same Dallas team we have seen the last few weeks with the Cowboys losing their last 3 of 4 games, which is the reason for my title of this blog.

Sure Dallas has injuries but what team doesn’t.   This is the time of year at the midway mark that most teams have players go down to injuries.  I can only hope that the injuries the Cowboys are going through will make them a stronger team and see how the new starters play their roles for the injured players and show a TEAM commitment to winning.  This is the NFL, it is full of talented athletes so one goes down, another very competent player can fill in the blanks for X amount of time that is required.

This Sunday has the 5-2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers heading to Texas Stadium to play the 4-3 Dallas Cowboys.  Game time is 1:00 pm ET which is odd for a home game for the Cowboys but so be it.

Dallas will once again be without starting quarterback Tony Romo who is still out with his broken finger.  This week I don’t think there is any question that Romo will not play as last week Romo did throw in a question mark that he ‘might’ play.  Back-up QB Brad Johnson will play his former team and lets hope he can get the Cowboys back on track.  Tampa Bay brings a full team to Dallas this Sunday.  Their defence has been playing great and offence has also shown some signs of moving the football into the ‘red-zone’ and coming out with 6 points so another strong test for this ‘turmoil’ Cowboy team.

For Dallas to win this game they will have to control the clock which will be led by running back Marion Barber III who has been slowed down this recent losing streak since he got off to such a great start to the season.  Not sure how much QB Johnson will want to throw the ball as Tampa Bay is second in the NFL with 12 interceptions but lets hope Johnson can get the ball to all his receivers especially wide receivers Terrell Owens and Roy Williams who did not catch one ball last week.  Even tight end Jason Witten has not been putting up numbers like last year when he was Mr. Clutch.  Not sure on the status of all-purpose Felix Jones but I am  hoping he will be in uniform and prepared to play.

It should be a great game and I hope Texas Stadium is loud and the home crowd brings that extra man to the field to get the Cowboys back on the winning side of the street.  It is getting tough on the losing side to cope with….I know boo-hoo for Cowboy fans…

See ya’all early next week.  As always comments and questions are encouraged.….

I can’t believe what has happened recently with the Cowboys.

What impact do you think Phillips taking over the defensive play-calling will have?

I think Phillips taking over the D can be positive. He was always if I remember correctly a pretty defensive minded kind of coach so maybe he can bring something to the D that others have not, can’t hurt to be honest with you……Go D!!!!!!!

I agree. He has a great defensive mind, and I think that it will impact them positively. In fact, I would argue that Phillips is more geared towards being a coordinator than a head coach.

Of course, maybe he just isn’t geared towards being a coach on such a high profile team.

I can’t believe the momentum swings that we have seen from the Cowboys this season.

If I were Dallas, I would be running the ball 30+ times (at least) this game.

I wouldn’t trust Johnson against the Tampa defence, some of the defensive schemes they run in the secondary can frustrate even the best quarterback.

Brendon, I agree. This is a HUGE game for the Cowboys and well I can only hope they show up tomorrow against a good Tampa Bay team. For Dallas to be successful, they will have to own the clock and run the ball successfully against a solid Buc defense. Will be a big test for QB Johnson against his former team. thanks for the comments…..
