Midweek in the Midwest

Fellow Cheeseheads!
Here we are, about midway through the 2008 Packers football season and into the BYE Week after 7 straight games. How did we fair? Above .500 (barely) at 4-3 with a 2-2 home field record and a 2-1 road record.
The rest of the NFC North division, at least spots 1-3 right now are wide open so to speak. The Vikings sit with a 3-4 record along in the #3 spot, the Packers at #2 at 4-3 and ‘Da Bears’ although sharing the same record, hold the #1 spot for now with the same 4-3 record as the Pack. The Lions remain winless and in the cellar at 0-6. The only other NFL team which is still looking to put one under the win column are the Bengals, 0-7 and counting.
I thought I’d give my outlook for the Packers remaining games and my final prediction of where they will finish, based on this fearless forecast. Briefly!
Nov 2 - @ TEN - My gut tells me the Packers will take this one. The Titans haven’t played a team of GB’s calibre yet - with the exception coming up in this weeks Monday Nighter!
Nov 9 - @ MIN - The season opening day re-match for both division rivals, this time in Viking territory. I think A.P will come out all guns ablazing and the Packers three straight wins could be in jeopardy, edge to the Vikes because of home field confines.
Nov 16 - vs. CHI - First of two meetings, this one at home promises to be a dandy and probably one of two most important games of the Packers season. It’s a must win - and they will prevail, barely.
Nov 24 - @ NO - No Reggie Bush most likely and coming off an emotional home win, and they will have lost there last road game @ Minnesota, I look for another win in convincing fashion.
Nov 30 - vs. CAR - Carolina has surpassed my expectations and I look for a solid game from both squads. It will be a must-watch, and depending on which teams show up for the game it could go either way. I like the Packers, regardless of if there alter ego’s appear.
Dec 7 - vs. HOU - This is one of those anything can happen games I think. I’ll call it for the Packers though just on my gut feeling.
Dec 10 - @ JAX - I like the Jags. They’re really coming together and this should be a good game. The Packers will need to click as they did in the Colts game and do it on the road. I’m not certain they’ll get this one.
Dec 22 - @ CHI - The rematch of what I like to call the 2nd most important game of the season and a must win. The Packers I trust will have taken care of Da Bears at home five weeks prior, but Soldier Field in late December has sometimes been unfriendly territory. I think the Packers will pull out a great win here. They must to make the playoffs and possibly take the NFC North Division title once again!
Dec 28 - vs. DET - My luck, probably the only Packers game I’ll end up watching live. Bummer! At any rate depending on a few scenarios this could be quite entertaining and lacking the big guns if the Packers have things wrapped up before gametime. Still - the Lions roar should still be less than ferocious (even if Favre’ calls them again - lmao) and I anticipate a good outing to wrap up the season from Coach McCarthy’s team.
So, I see a much better record after they bye than the one assembled prior. How does 7-2 sound/look/feel? Combined with the first half record of 4-3, that gives the Green Bay Packers an 11-5 record, and we hope the NFC North after a late season surge by the Vikings falls short and a ticket to the playoffs.
What did you all make of this silly story involving the former #4 and the Lions that came out this weekend? My only comment is that, if true, what a sad way to end what was once a great player-team relationship.
In true fall football at Lambeau Field tradition - the tailgate experience has always been something to behold, even after you’ve done it a few times. Simply put into words, the smell and taste of brawts, the tasty beverage consumptions and the mingling with fans about the current roster and gameday with the next tailgater over has long been an overall staple of the Packers fan gameday experience! Well, some local entertainers decide it was time for a show based upon these things. Local outfit, Daddy D Productions created, “Tailgatin’ In Green Bay” and are performing it locally here beginning Thursday October 30th. It must be ok, as the local newspaper entertainment reporter gave it a full 4/4 stars. What’s next right?
I came across a totally interesting ideal type of website thats Sports related and wanted to share it. It’s called Sportsfanslive.com. Basically, you can use it to connect with fans of any sports outfit you enjoy, based on your location - current location that is. In other words, as a huge Sens fan here in Green Bay, Wisconsin - I can hookup and hangout with folks who enjoy the puck and stick like me and who may root for the Sens! Just a great idea and one of those you immediately say, darn I wish I had thought of that one!
So, as we head into a Packer-less football weekend, let us stay focused on next week’s opponent the Titans and the happenings from the fan perspective. Please visit the blog of STB’s own Titans blogger, Vic Minicozzi, and stay tuned for more.
