Skins Win and Overtake Dallas in NFC East Standings

Nothing better for a Skins fan than winning at home after seeing Dallas get slaughtered by a team that beat us by 2 points last week. The Redskins’ win over the Browns putting them in second place behind the New York Giants.
Â
The first half of the game was all punting. P Ryan Plackemeier made his debut for the Skins and he did really well. If Rookie Durant Brooks had played instead, the 0-0 score into the half might have been a different story. The Redskins did manage to get within field goal range with 4 seconds left in the half, but K Shaun Suisham misses and the ball hits the posts. Did look like a high snap.Â

Third Quarter
Â
RB Shaun Alexander makes his debut in the 3rd quarter. His first carry was for 8 yards. RB Clinton Portis continues to add more yardage and then gets a TD to give the Skins the first points. 7-0 Redskins.Â
Â
This then sparks something in the Browns’ offense, but all they can get is a field goal. 7-3 Redskins.Â
Â
Fourth Quarter
Â
The fourth quarter is where both these teams do most of their scoring. QB Jason Campbell had a sweet throw to WR Santana Moss, who managed to spin him way into the end zone. 14-3 Redskins.
Â
Here is where the game got interesting. The Browns get 1st and goal. The Redskins defense headed by London Fletcher stops each attempt by the Browns. At 4th and goal, the Browns decide to go for it and are again, stopped by the Redskin defense. Redskins take over on downs. All the Redskins have to do is run the ball and take the remaining minutes off the clock.
Â
RB Clinton Portis carries a 20+ yard run but then fumbles the ball. The Browns get the ball back at the 29 yard line. In a complete repeat of moments before, the Browns are at 1st and goal. The Redskins defense holds them to 4th and goal. However, this time, it worked in their favour and they get a TD. They go for 2 points and bring the game within a field goal 14-11 Redskins.Â
Â
With only 2:37 left in the game, the Redskins have the ball, but have to punt away after they cannot get a 1st down. The Browns can only get close enough for a 54 yard field goal attempt. The kick was long enough, but off to the right. Skins win 14-11.
Â
The Redskins’ win is because of the great defense, particularly with CB Carlos Rogers and LB London Fletcher. There was also hard hitting by the Skins WR and RBs. QB Jason Campbell is still the only starting QB to not have a single turnover in a game. RB Clinton Portis, even though he had the fumble, ended with 175 yards and 1 TD.Â
Â
The Browns lost because of poor offense. They did manage 236 net yards, but at one point, their WRs only had a single catch each and so many dropped passes.

Clinton Portis is proving that he is not only an elite back still, but maybe the best in the league!
The guy is amazing, and I have to admit, I love the sense of humor that he has too.
I would have liked it, if the Skins would have won by 8 or more though.
