The Baltimore Ravens traveled to Miami to face the Dolphins this Sunday. The Ravens came away with a win 27-13 and great play by their quarterback. QB Joe Flacco rebounded from a horrific week last week and led the Ravens offense to victory. Flacco managed the game well and did not throw any interceptions. Flacco looked confident and ready to play on Sunday. The win for the Ravens stops their three game losing streak The Ravens now sit alone in second after a Browns loss. The Ravens trail the 5-1 Pittsburgh Steelers, who beat the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5. The Ravens offense had a great game. They were moving the ball effectively on the run and pass and they were working as a unit. The offensive line had a great game. They protected Flacco and created holes for the running backs. The offensive line was missing RG Marshal Yanda who was replaced by backup center Chris Chester. Also missing from the offensive line for the second straight game was RT Adam Terry who was replaced by RT Willie Anderson. With the great protection Flacco had he went 17 of 23 for 232 yards and 1 TD. Flacco had a QB rating of 120, which is a career high. Also the Ravens defense had a great game by shutting down the Dolphins “wildcat” offense.
The Dolphins opened up the games scoring with a 21-yard field goal on their first drive of the game. A good call for the Ravens to go for it on 4th and 2 led to a 47-yard field goal to put the game at 3-3 in the first quarter. In the second quarter Terrell Suggs picked off a play action pass form Chad Pennington intended for Patrick Cobbs and Suggs returned it for the touchdown. Suggs read the play perfectly. Miami countered with a 26-yard field goal. On the ensuing drive by the Ravens, Flacco got his second career touchdown pass that was an 11-yard pass to Derrick Mason. The touchdown put the game at 17-6 going into the half. It was really an impressive drive by Flacco and the Ravens offense. On the opening drive of the second half the Ravens drove down the field and Matt Stover converted a 28-yard field goal to put the game at 20-6. On the next drive by the Dolphins they drove down the field and scored. The touchdown was a 7-yard pass from Chad Pennington to Davone Bess. This was the first time the Dolphins offense really moved the ball all game. The Ravens later in the fourth quarter wrapped up the game scoring on another impressive drive ending with a 5-yard run by McGahee. The final score was Ravens 27, Dolphins 13.
The Ravens running backs had a great day today and had some help from the offensive line. Ray Rice and Willis McGahee were both very effective on screenplays and got lots of yards on screens. Ray Rice was finally involved more in the Ravens offense. This is partially because he showed the Ravens some promise against the Colts defense in the fourth quarter last week. Ray Rice finished with 7 rushes for 13 yards and 2 receptions for 46 yards. Willis McGahee was finding the holes created by the offensive line and was running hard. McGahee finished with 19 rushes for 105 yards with 1 TD and 1 fumble. McGahee also had 2 receptions for 47 yards. TE Todd Heap was finally getting more receptions. Heap had 3 receptions for 29 yards. I think Heap should still get more receptions but at least 3 receptions is a start. Flacco was impressive this week making good decisions and leading the Ravens offense. Mason was Flacco’s main target once again. Mason had 6 receptions for 87 yards and 1 TD. It was the first time Flacco and Mason hooked up for a TD this season. The Ravens defense had an amazing game rebounding from a very bad performance against Indy last week. The Ravens dominated the Dolphins and were not fooled by the wildcat offense. Overall it was a good game by the Ravens and they rebounded from a bad performance last week.
