Panthers Bounce Back

The only time I don’t mind being wrong about something is when I pick against my team :) The Panther’s bounced back from their worst loss of the season to impress with a solid shut down victory of the highly skilled big play offense of the New Orleans Saints 30-7 in this NFC South showdown to take sole possession of 1st place.

Julius Peppers and the Carolina Panther’s Defense was the story of the game with a constant assault on Brees and Bush. Peppers somehow finished only with 1 sack but appeared to be Drew Brees’ eating partner as he was in his kitchen all game long, and had a huge strip of Shockey in the 2nd quarter to snatch back the momentum that they loss from the start of the game. The D was relentless and kept the Saints to only 3 big plays all game long, well below their average. They also stuffed the Saints on 2 4th down conversions including one on the 2 yard line.  The D also held Bush and McCallister to 103 yards rushing and Ken Lucas intercepted Drew Brees and ran it back to the 18 yard line.

The Panthers offense was led by Jake Delhomme who finished 14/22 for 195 yards with the majority of the yards coming from Steve Smith who finished with 6 catches for 122 yard and a td.  The 2 headed running attack for the Panthers had a good game with Stewart rushing for 17/ 68 yards and 1 td and Williams 18/66 yards with a td reception. The Panthers were work man like with their attack on this day with only one razzle dazzle play for 39 yards to Smith from a flea flicker from Stewart back to Delhomme.

Reggie Bush left the game at the end of the 1st half and the latest report on NFL.com is he will not be making the trip to London.  The Panthers showed some pride today but do not have me sold just yet, as the Saints have not won a road game all year and may have had their London trip in the fronts of their minds instead of the game at hand. If the Panthers can continue this trend against the Cardinals who are coming off their bye this week, then I will start feeling confident again. I must say that all game long I was weary as last weeks loss put a huge dent in my confidence is this team this season. As John Fox says and I should listen…..”24 hour rule in effect, 24 hours to celebrate or 24 hours to be upset” Not a week Jayson….LOL
