STAMPS STOMP BLUE BOMBERS
The Calgary Stampeders stomp the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 37-16 tonight in Calgary. Smiling Hank throws five touchdown passes for the Stamps in the victory. The victory for the Stamps puts them in first place again with a 11-5 record on the season.
The Calgary Stampeder start the game off in fine fashion as they march down the field, ending in the touchdown pass to Ralph, the first for Burris in the game. Serna was fantastic tonight as he kicks his field goal.
The Stamps gets another touchdown, with Copeland catching a terrific pass by Burris as the Stamps take a 14-3. Another long drive directed by Burris. Note the Bombers held Reynolds in check, and were basically were forcing the Stampeders into a passing game. The problem for the Blue Bombers is they could not stop the passing game. Late in the quarter, the Stamps march on a 10 play drive. This time, Burris throws his third touchdown to Rambo, giving the Stamps a 21-3 lead. Burris did everything he wanted to all night, throwing 233 yards at the half. The Stamps go into the half with a 21-6 lead.
Brian Dunwoody starts the third quarter for the Bombers, as he directs a drive to get the Bombers down by 10. A terrific catch by Bryant in the end zone - Dunwoody looks as good as he did in the first game against the Stamps. But the Bombers’ defense could not stop the Stamps passing game. Burris was outstanding again, throwing passes to Rambo, Lewis, and Ralph. The main problem is that Burris has all day, he could write a book back there. When you give Burris that much time, he is going to pick any defense apart.
Brian Dunwoody throws the only interception of the game and the only turnover, as Anderson gets his second interception of the season. Burris promptly directs the Stampeders into the end zone, throwing a 10 yard pass to Brent Ralph. That was it for Burris, as Nealy comes in to mop up for the Stamps for the rest of the night. Burris finished the night with 28/38 for 336 yards. He was a perfect technician tonight for the Stamps, keeping all the receivers at his disposal happy. There is not enough credit given to Burris, who uses all of his weapons correctly, precisely at the time they are needed.
The Stamps just had too much offense. The passing game was too deadly, for a non-motivated Blue Bomber team, who had second place wrapped up. They secured the playoffs, with the Argo’s losing to the Al’s earlier in the afternoon. Stamps win 37-16 final.
