Browns look to continue winning ways against the Redskins

The Browns and Redskins had completely different outcomes from their games last weekend.  The Browns showed up in prime time on MNF to dominate a strong Giants team that was previously unbeaten.  The Redskins have got to be primed to come back after a devastating loss to the previously winless, and pathetic, St. Louis Rams.

Last week, the Browns did a great job of mixing up their offensive package and keeping the defense guessing.  To be successful this week, they need to do more of the same.  Jamal Lewis will not have a big game against the ‘Skins D.  Therefore, Derek Anderson needs to play with the same composure he did last week.  I expect that he will be pressured more by the Redskins than he was against the Giants.  The offense needs to throw those quick slants that they had so much success with.  If DA can read the blitzes and throw accurately, the Browns have a great chance to move the ball.  The Browns need to take some shots down field as well.  They may have limited time against the Redskins, but the plays need to be called, and early.    I also liked the use of Joshua Cribbs in the offense.  He can create havoc on any play as a receiver, runner, or thrower.  These previous points should open up the run game to allow Lewis to be effective in creating manageable 3rd down situations.  And, oh, by the way, a reduction of false starts to, say…, zero would help as well.

When the Redskins have the ball the Browns D needs to stop Clinton Portis from running and catching.  He is a tough runner and has been hot all year.  With Shaun Rogers in, I think we have a chance.  With Shaun Rogers out, I don’t know.  I’d like to see the Browns put the ball in Jason Campbell’s hands and make him beat us through the air.  Our young corners looked good against the Giants and I don’t think their passing attack matches up to that of the Giants.  I thought the Browns did a great job of blitzing Eli Manning last week and I don’t see why they can’t do the same to Campbell.  One thing is for sure, we cannot allow the Redskins to get up early.  We’ve proven in many games that we cannot stop the run well enough to come back and win games.

On special teams, Cribbs is due for a TD.  We all know it.  The Redskins know it, and they are afraid.  I’m gonna say it, “He breaks one for a TD this weekend.”  There, I said it.

This one comes down to which Browns team shows up to play.  I doubt they will dominate like they did on Monday, but they will come to play.

Browns 24, Redskins 21.

Hey Tom, good call on the points, but unfortunately that field goal went right and Skins were the ones up by 3. Clinton Portis racked up 175 yards and a TD. Did you see that Oakland 57 yard field goal? Holy cow!
