SOCCER: What Do You Know?

I talk soccer all day…every day. And in those conversations a myriad of topics come up. From penalty kick calls to arguments over the best attacking outside back in the history of the game (Maldini) to the most overrated player (Landon Donovan)…I cover it all with friends, teammates and even strangers (as long as they know the game). So I figured I’d throw some questions your way to see how much you know.

How many different countries have won the FIFA World Cup and who are they? And how many times have they won it?

Can a team score an own-goal on a free kick inside their own penalty box?

What purpose does the Penalty Arc serve?

What country did Gary Lineker play for?

Who holds the single season goal-scoring record in Major League Soccer?

What indoor soccer team did TATU spend most of his career with?

How many different professional soccer leagues has Tim Graefe played in and what are they?

How fast can Frankie Hejduk run (without the ball, of course)?

How many minutes per game does Bruce Arena stare up at the sky?

What high school soccer team did Eric Wynalda and Cobi Jones play together on?

What was the ASL?

True or false…Steve Sampson really did coach the U.S. National Team.

    Edson Says:

First, as I am on-line right now, I can just look all of this up, but I will go free-brain here:

    1. Brazil-5, Germany (West)-3, Italy-2, France-1, Argentina-1, England-1, Paraguay-1

    2. Yes, a direct kick. The rule states it must leave the area, and once it crosses the goal line, it has left the area and is a goal.

    3. Keeps players 10 yrds from the ball on a PK.

    4. England

    5. Roy Lassiter (30 goals???)

    6. Dallas Sidekicks (He played up to 2 years ago!!!!)

    7. Those leagues are not professional, if so I am updating my resume….(Does SUASL count?)

    8. Frankie has the world record beep test, and if there is a candybar at the finish line, he can run a 3.9 40 yard dash.

    9. 67.3 so far with The Galaxy….does he have to stand like the least athletic person on earth??? Damn Lacross coach.

    10. Who cares…..They are Hollywood United team mates now.

    11. A Lame League…..the nickname for one of Graefe’s “Pro” leagues he played in.

    12. As much as I hate to admit it….True, he implemented the X-Mas tree formation which gave us all of the success in 1998!!!! (By the way, my ODP coach used the same formation which caused me to not make the national team because our star could not hold the ball, I called my position the mistle toe, because I kissed my career goodbye).
