Jets Tame Bengals 26-14

Perhaps, like Frosty the Snowman’s top hat, there’s some magic in those old throwback Titans uniforms the Jets have been sporting lately.

More likely, it was simply Thomas Jones’ return to NFL relevance that was the key.

Whatever the case may be, the Jets dispatched the hapless Bengals in an efficient manner yesterday and, coupled with New England’s loss in San Diego last night, are now tied for second place with the Patriots in the unexpectedly tight AFC East.  Powered by Jones’ three touchdowns, Gang Green didn’t make it look easy, but they won a game that had “trap” written all over it.

Jets analysis:

Offense:  Jones had never scored three touchdowns in an NFL game before…Brett Favre underwhelmed a bit, throwing for below 200 yards and two interceptions.  He also lost a fumble that Bengals returned for a touchdown…Leon Washington continues to get more involved.  He touched the ball nine times yesterday and his workload will increase as New York tries to keep Jones healthy…Both Jerricho Cotchery (eight receptions) and Laveranues Coles (eight receptions) made key catches to keep drives from stalling…the offensive line allowed two sacks against the mediocre Bengals pass rush.  However, they did a nice job drive blocking on Jones’ rushing touchdowns.

Defense:  The Jets pass rush worked well against Cincinnati, recording 5 sacks…NT Kris Jenkins had four tackles and was a menacing presence in the middle…As a whole, the defense held the Bengals to 43 net rushing yards…LB Calvin Pace forced and recovered a key fumble to kill a Cincinnati drive…CB Dwight Lowery led the way in the secondary, defending two passes and doing a nice job on Bengals WR Chad Johnson-Ocho Cinco.

Overall:  Since the Jets have a history of losing games like this, it was a nice surprise to see them come out focused and in the mood to take care of business.  With the Patriots stumbling, New York has an excellent opportunity to challenge Buffalo for the lead in the division.  A win over Oakland this week would go a long way towards accomplishing that goal.

Raiders are a mess, big surprise, lol! Jets get the win and move to 4-2 next week.

Problem is Frank, how good is this Jets team? Who have they played? The Cards had a massive brain camp in the 2nd quarter, or should I say Kurt Warner. I don’t know what to think of this team yet.

I made the mistake of starting Favre on my fantasy team yesterday.

It’s nice to see the Jets turn it around, I remember people slamming them after their loss to the Chargers. With this schedule, it’s no surprise to see them turn it around and get some wins. The AFC east will be an extremely intriguing division to watch for the rest of the season.

That’sa fair question, Zach….my answer is that they are a middle of the road team but, should they somehow sneak into the playoffs, they have a proven playoff QB in Favre now and could surprise some folks.

They need to win the games they are supposed to, like they say take care of business and then the tough games, at least split them! They need to continue to get Thomas Jones involved.

I actually drove down from Ottawa to attend this game! It was worth the drive for sure…

    Onto the game….

This is the kind of game that is very easy to lose. Just ask the Redskins….there’s nothing scarier than playing a winless team. Favre said so himself.

There’s no pressure on Cinci at this point.

Great workman like win and I’ll take it.

Our Defence is slowly inproving and I think will be tested in the upcoming weeks in trying to stop the run more importantly Buffalo.

I think they’re going 10-6 for sure and maybe 11-5.

I smell playoffs boys and girls..

    J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!
    Cheers,
