Week 6 Preview: Bears (3-2) Hope To Take Down Soaring Falcons

Of all the surprises so far this season in the NFL, one of the bigger stories would have to be the consistent play of the Atlanta Falcons, which has led them to a respectable 3-2 start.  This coming off an off-season drama storyline with Micheal Vick, giving rookie QB Matt Ryan a chance to lead the team.  The Chicago Bears should be cautious once again this week, hoping to make it 3 wins in a row, and further cementing their hold on first place in the NFC North.  Bears’ fans shouldn’t expect a rout like the one we saw last week, however if the team plays remotely as well as they did last Sunday, a victory should be in sight.  Taking a look at this week’s keys:

1) Stop the Run:  The Bears defense got the job done against veteran QB Rudi Johnson, as the Lions offense as a whole was non-existant last Sunday.  This week should be a different story, as the Bears will be going up against standout RB Micheal Turner, who is a much larger red zone threat.  If the Bears are going to win, stopping Turner will be a key contributor.

2) Can Kyle Top Last Week?: Having come off a career best game against the Lions, many are wondering if Bears QB Kyle Orton can put together a similar week this time around.  Having not thrown an interception was a huge step forward for Orton, and hopefully he can keep it going against a mediocre Falcons’ secondary.  With WR Devin Hester finally showing up to play, and Marty Booker showing his veteran leadership on the field, Orton has numerous targets to hit and succeed.

3) Running Seems to be his ‘Forte’:  A solid performance by Matt Forte is almost now guaranteed week in and week out *knock on wood*.  If he can manage to find the endzone, it suits the Bears that much better.  In the games in which Forte has scored this season, the Bears have won.  Obviously this serves as a great omen.  Forte can both run and receive, so it gives Kyle Orton yet another target to hit deep.

- WR Brandon Lloyd is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game, still nursing his knee injury.  There is no real urgency to rush him back, as the Bears offense has continued to improve week-in week-out.

- With the Bears defense needing to come up big this weekend, they could be without some of their key starters with the likes of CB Charles Tillman and Nathan Vasher, DT Tommie Harris and Anthony Adams all nursing injuries.  Hopefully these guys will be back Sunday, if not it will be up the the backups to come up big in hopes of sending the Bears to 4-2.

Go Bears!

-Will

Never say never, the Bears could return to their inconsistent selves and blow the game.

True but man they look good. They are winning all 3 phases of almost every game.
