The Adam “Not Pacman” Jones Saga…

By now everyone has heard that Adam Jones was implicated in yet another incident, this time involving a fight with a member of his own security team. Jones will not be suspended by the Cowboys, and the NFL is currently investigating. To read details of the story or to see the police report (no names mentioned) click the links below…

The fight happened in a bathroom at a hotel where the party was being thrown. Jones’ security detail was making a shift change when there was apparently a disagreement on whether or not Jones should be allowed to attend the party. Jones was reported to have attacked a member of his security detail. No charges are being pressed and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that he will not suspend Jones. Early reports indicate, that alcohol wasn’t a factor, but as we wait for more news to pour in, let’s not assume.Â
Jerry Jones knew of the risks involved when acquiring Adam Jones from the Titans. Hence why there was a clause put into the trade that allowed the Cowboys to recover a draft pick from Tennessee based on his behavior. The fact that Jones has a full time security/babysitting team should be an indication of the risk the Cowboys feel Jones is. Jerry Jones showed support for his player today by not suspending him, and throwing a press conference in which he seemed to defend Jones in every way. Sure Jerry Jones showed concern for his player, but nonetheless stood by him and gave him his vote of support.
Roger Goodell spoke to ESPN Radio and made it clear that he wasn’t happy to even be speaking about Jones. “I don’t think there’s any misunderstanding about the position that Adam has put himself in with respect to all of the behavior. And I’ve been very clear with him about the fact that it cannot reflect poorly on himself, the team or the NFL, and that there were certain things that I expected of him. And I think he clearly understands that. I guess I would tell you that I’m disappointed that we’re even discussing this at this point in time. But we’ll have to wait for the facts and understand exactly what happened before we make any determinations.â€
Until Roger Goodell conducts an investigation, and all details are released, I will reserve judgment. But at this stage, I don’t think I’m going out on a limb by saying that if the NFL finds Adam Jones to be guilty in any way, shape or form, they HAVE to give him the boot. The NFL is the leader in all major sports in North America when it comes to their product. They set the standard, for what is and isn’t tolerable. They hold their players to higher standards, both on and off the field. Jones has already been questioned by police in twelve separate events since entering the league. Enough is Enough. The bottom line is that you can’t keep Pacman out of bars and strip clubs, but the NFL has the power to keep him out of people’s homes every Sunday.Â
- What are your thoughts on the incident?
- Do you think Jerry Jones enormous influence in the league will affect Roger Goodell’s decision in any way?

Sad really when you think about it, but you can’t change most of these athletes. They always feel as if the world owes them something, football being one of the worst sports for that. These guys are coddled and told they are the cats ass from age 10 and eventually they think they can do no wrong and are above the law.
I dont see Jerry Jones influencing Goodell one way or the other. Jones knew what he was getting into, its just that Jones thinks he can change anyone but this time it just might have backfired!
If Adam Jones doesnt realize at this point that he was given a major chance to return to the NFL and that he needs to be clean no matter what, then he will never change.
I say so long chump, you havent even been average this year in terms of your level of play!

I lived with all the enablers and his issues here in Tennessee for far too long. He is a bad guy pure and simple and will be serving prison time or will be dead before this decade is over. He is going to sucker punch the wrong person and be in a situation he can’t get out of. I’m surprised he actually hit a man, usually he likes to beat on women.

Dan, I have only read a little on this and well I agree with what you have to say. It will be interesting as to what transpires out of this and I always said, if only I could be as gifted as some ‘donkey’ athletes and do so many humanitarian things but in any event, I am not a professional athlete so I can only say that I agree with what you say. he has had all these chances and still continues to be a bad role model to everyone associated with Adam Jones. I would also agree that if it comes out that Pacman instigated in anyway than it may be time for the Commish to consider banning Pacman from ever playing in the NFL. Obviously Pacman is not listening. You have this talent, keep yourself in check Pal….the NFL is the leader and will have to set an example for all other professional sports. To top it all off Pacman has not produced anything productive on the field that he will not even be missed and this coming from the Cowboy blogger….good blog Dan…..hope it is to be continued….
