RB Clinton Portis was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week against the Philadelphia Eagles.  Portis recorded 29 rushes for 145 yards, 1 touchdown, 2 passes for 13 yards yielding total of 158 yards (league high for the week).  This is the 3rd time Portis has won this award.

“Clinton has been working and running very hard the entire season,” head coach Jim Zorn said. “We are excited that our running backs, offensive line and our entire team received the recognition for this accomplishment. Clinton had a top-notch performance and we are pleased that the NFL recognized him.”

Clinton Portis and the Redskins take on the St Louis Rams this Sunday at 1PM.

How was Williams not the player of the week from Carolina?? DeAngelo Williams 123 yards rushing with 3 touchdowns, 2 rushing, and 1 receiving.. How often does a player get 3 in one game!

More fans voting. It’s pretty prominent on the Redskins website to vote anytime a Redskins is nominated. Gotta get more Panther fans voting!

He should have been hands down if fans actually understood and watched all the games. Total joke, Williams outdid Portis hands down.

Big market teams rule the roost in every sport I guess!!! Maybe it was the fact that he put up those numbers against the Chiefs and Portis did it against the Eagles??

The NFL is a business and sometimes the best players are overlooked. The fans get to ballot for their picks in the pro bowl every year as well. Football is marketed to fans who bring in the money with ticket sales and then buy jerseys etc etc. The more a player is in the media, the better chance more fans will watch them and maybe buy their jersey. The better a team can market their own players, the more fans they get, and the players get noticed more (hence voted for more).

Portis isn’t just a running back though. You gotta give him props for what he can do other than run the ball.
