A late touchdown pass from Kerry Collins to Alge Crumpler enabled the Titans to slip by the Baltimore Ravens 13-10 in a hard fought defensive battle. Collins and the Titans offense had a hard time of it for the majority of the game as the Ravens defense did not disappoint.
The officials struggled to control the emotions of this game throwing penalty flag after penalty flag throughout the game. There were questionable personal foul calls on both sides that led to points for both teams. On the opening drive Chris Hope was flagged for a 15 yarder after an unsuccessful third down play that extended the Ravens drive and led to a field goal. The most controversial call came on the Titans game winning drive, when Terrell Suggs was flagged for a roughing the passer penalty when his arm grazed Collins helmet. Both were bad calls.
This was as emotional of a game that I have seen in sometime. This rivalry never fails to live up to the hype. The Titans defense was keyed up to the point of losing their composure on occasion. They took needless penalties all game long and Keith Bulluck and Cortland Finnegan had an on field confrontation when Bulluck tried to calm Finnegan down after his second personal foul penalty in the same drive.
Joe Flacco was impressive but threw two picks including the game clincher with a minute or so left. He appears to have a great future in this league showing lots of poise under the Titans defensive pressure.
The Titans continued to improve on special teams with Chris Carr breaking off two good returns which flipped the field position in the Titans favor. The Defense gave up less than 17 points for the eighth straight game which is a franchise record.
An ugly win is still a win and I’ll take them everytime over a pretty loss. There are no moral victories in the NFL. The Titans get a much needed bye week to get healed up and ready for the stretch run. Their next game is in Kansas City followed by a Monday night game at LP Field against the Colts.

If someone would have told me that the Titans AND Vanderbilt would both be 5-0 I would have bet my non subprime mortgage on it. It’s great to be a football fan in Nashville right now.
The Predators open up their home season on Saturday night as the NHL season begins. Lets hope for a 5-0 start for the Preds as well.
The Titans are now 2 1/2 games in front of the Colts and 3 up on the Jags after five games. The Colts could easily be 0-4 except for the miracles that unfolded against the Texans and the Jaguars.
The Dolphins are the surprise team in the AFC. The Chargers are the most disappointing.
See you on Wednesday with my updated AFC Rankings.

Pretty impressive thus far. I think the AFC is wide open for teams like Tennessee, San Diego, Indy, Denver, etc.

Agreed! Damn impressive so far. At what point do they incorporate VY into the offense, if only for a few plays a game?

It is a wide open race. All the teams have weaknesses that could cost them in the long run. It could come down to matchups, schedules, and of course the injury factor as the year unfolds.

It probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to get him involved with some of that direct snap stuff that is working in Miami

Now if Collins still continue to pile up the wins what do the Titans then do with Young ?

Different looks would be a added dimension!

Collins has 2 years left max at a high level!

I think depending on the success of the season that they’ll try to re-sign Collins and let them fight it out next year. If Vince doesn’t win I predict he is cut at the end of 2009.

Still even with Young not in there they are still only winning some games by the same margin as if he was in there. That’s why I posed the question if Collins continues winning or leads them to a division title atleast what do they do with Young see as he is more athletic but isn’t doing anything to expand on the size of the victories.

This was the first close game that Collins has been in . They blew out Cincinnati, Houston and Minnesota with Collins. Baltimore has a real good defense so I didn’t expect a large margin there
