Well let me begin by saying the FSU/Miami game turned out to actually be a damn fine game. In weather that seemed to turn off and off like a faucet it FSU struggled to hold on against a solid young up and coming canes program.
First let me say I was very impressed by the talent & skill Travis Benjamin showed in this game. Benjamin has a bright future and the canes now know for sure they have a risinig star on their hands. As for Florida St even with a lousy ypa Antone Smith has he came up with some brusing runs and seemed to at the time crush the spirits of the Miami players.
I will just abandon all hope of Christian Ponder being a more acurate passer this year and accept that he will complete his fair share of passes and use his legs to cut through teams defenses. Ponder ended the day with 144 rushing yards, 159 passing yards, & 1 passing touchdown.
Next up for FSU is a Thursday night showdown @ North Carolina St on ESPN.

Eagles again can’t punch it in when they need too.
They got off to just about as good as a start as you want your team to have. Who knew they would forget there was an entire game to be played.
After only allowing just over 200 rushing yards in it’s first 4 games they gave up a grand total of 203 to the Redskins. I was hoping if the Eagles defense had a off game in this area it wouldn’t be that bad of a game.
I give the Redskins all the credit for not packing it in early & reminding the Eagles this fight was not even close to being over and punching away at the lead. The Eagles could not muster any significant offensive drives outside it’s opening one.
Answering what I thought the keys to the game were for the Eagles:
Westbrook was back but they didn’t go to him a whole lot 12 rushes for 33 yards & 6 catches for 51 yards. For this team to succeed they are going to have to get him in more touches & space to make plays. As it is now they aren’t getting th job done and the rest of the offense and entire team suffers as a result.
The Eagles stopped some of the Redskins playmakers but not all of them. Portis & Cooley each respectively has good days that hurt the Eagles and ate up the clock limited the time they had with the ball.
I don’t have much more to say about them needing to find ways to get touchdowns when getting into the red zone, especially when you get the ball down to the 1 yard line. There is no excuse whatsoever that the team with the heaviest offensive line can’t move people off the ball enough to advance 1 yard into the damn end zone.
Lastly: Props to Mercedes Green for hitting the score and winner head on.
***BREAKING NEWS*** Let’s add this to the pile Brian Westbrook has a broken ribs. Next’s weeks status is not known.

It was painful to watch, thank god dinner was dont not to long after this game. I am guessing Westbrook will sit this week and be looked at after the bye week.

Its time for the Eagles to draft a RB in the first round. I know Buckhalter is a decent backup, but they need to be thinking about someone to take over for Westbrook when he is too injury prone to continue. How many years can he possibly have left? I cant see much more than 2 or 3 years…

They won’t do that………There biggest concern probably will be losing both offensive tackles. I think this could be a very rich draft for them and they won’t pass up on one with 2 picks in the opening round.
Maybe they could go RB after that but that depends on who comes out and if they will still be around.

Agreed, someone in the early rounds. Steve Slaton looks pretty good in Houston, when was he drafted?

Not getting in from inside the five yard line once again is unreal! Why dont they let Donovan run it in or get a TE to the outside?

I said that last week, what happened to the naked bootleg ? I know the play call seems to be bad but they won’t bench him I don’t think if he says that play won’t work and changes it.
They have very little time to turn things around or it will be an early year scouting players for the 2009 draft.

They got Westbrook in the 3rd round (pick #91 in 2002) and they basically took him because he went to a local school. Slaton was taken in the 3rd round also with the 89th selection.
