Angels single and double help score a run as Beckett walked Juan Rivera with the bases juiced.
30 pitches from Beckett in the first.

Saunders looks good early, despite plunking Pedroia gets through the inning unscathed.
Nine pitches from Saunders in the first.

Beckett walks two more batters, but the Angels still can’t get that big hit.
Beckett’s thrown 51 pitches through two innings.

Absolutely horrendous defense by the Angels cost them three runs. Howie Kendrick and Torri Hunter just let a 2 out bases loaded pop fly drop and Sox capitalize.
Just awful. For a team that can’t get a meaningful base hit at all to just giveaway three runs is inexcusable.
3-1 Sox T3

Beckett gives up his first home run to a right handed batter since July 19th. First Angels post season homer in 19 innings. Mike Napoli takes Beckett over the green monster to even up the game.
3-3 B3

So will this be over in three, four, or five games?

Saunders surrenders a walk, but no damage is done. 60 pitches through three innings.
3-3 B3

You tell me, but for sure as we’re seeing the Angels, the best road team in baseball, will not roll over.

Beckett gets out of another bases loaded jam, without any serious damage. At 91 pitches he maybe done for the night. Just four innings out of him.
If you are the Angels at this point, tied and going into the Sox pen you have to be pleased.
3-3 B4

According to our friends from TBS, Beckett is staying in for the fifth.
Double play and a ground out for Saunders end the inning, three up then down.
Saunders- 70 Pitches through 4.

Mike Napoli takes Beckett over the Green Monster again, this time a solo shot.
4-3 Angels B5
Beckett now sits at 106 pitches. We’ll see if Francona sends him out again to face the heart of the Angels order.

Yet another fielding error costs the Angels. An lead off fly out drops out of Garret Anderson’s glove and with two outs Youkilis cashes it in with an RBI double.
With two outs Arredondo was brought into to get the Angels out of the inning.
Jose got Mike Lowell to strike out looking a keep the Sox at bay.

Who do you like in the Dodgers/Phillies matchup? (and is 17-14 as boring a football game as it sounds?)
Posted: 10/05/08 at 6:53 pm
I wouldn’t want to play the Dodgers right now. They are the hottest team in baseball. I would say Dodgers in 5/6.
And 17-14 was still a pretty good game. Both teams use their defense as their calling cards. Nice to see Kentucky with a SEC caliber defense.

Three up, three down for Delcarmen against the heart of this lineup. Pretty impressive.

Three up, three down for Arredondo. Including two strike outs.
Great game tonight, who’s bullpen will blink first?
4-4 T7

Napoli gets booed in Fenway after hitting two balls out of the park. Then he gets promptly nailed by Delcarmen. (Well according to the Ump) A Kendrick single than chased Delcarmen from the game.
Okajima was brought in with two on and two out to face Erick Aybar. He got Aybar to ground out to end the inning.
4-4 B7- Halos bullpen has to match their output.

I wonder with the Angels sinking everything they have into tonights game will hurt them in Game 4, if there is one? When teams go balls out for a game, next game out usually is a little tougher both emotionally and physically.
Posted: 10/05/08 at 7:28 pm
Gotta say at this point I definitely think the Halos would take their chances with that. Darren Oliver is coming in to face Ortiz with one man on and one out.
Posted: 10/05/08 at 7:34 pm
Oliver doesn’t get Ortiz out, but Ellsbury gets caught stealing, or he went past it and got out. Anyways big break for the Halos. Scot Shields is now coming in to face Youkilis.
Scioscia’s pulling out all the stops tonight, and he has to.
Posted: 10/05/08 at 7:37 pm
Shields gets Youk swinging on a sinking fastball.
4-4 T8
Posted: 10/05/08 at 7:53 pm
Justin Masterson blows a 3-2 fastball right by Vladimir Guerrerro to finish the Halos off in the eighth.
4-4 B8
Posted: 10/05/08 at 8:00 pm
Shields takes just 11 pitches to set Sox down 1-2-3 in the eighth.
4-4 T9
Hunter, Willits, Napoli Due Up
Posted: 10/05/08 at 8:08 pm
Angels go down three straight, including a huge out at second on a leadoff single from Hunter.
Halos have outhit the Sox 12-5, we’ll see if there errors lose them this game.
4-4 B9

We got extra innings in Boston. Shields sets them down in order, making it seven straight to send this game to the tenth.
4-4 T10
Due Up: Kendrick, Aybar, Figgins
