Just a short blog tonight about why the Riders defeated the Stamps. The Riders defeated the Stamps 37-34 this evening and proved why they are the best team in the west. The Stamps demonstrated why they could finish third. If the Eskies beat the Blue Bombers tomorrow, they could finish fourth. That is the Story of the West this season. The standings changed that fast in one night.
Burris had his worst game of the Season as he threw one pick which resulted in a TD and fumbled the ball that cost the Stamps another touchdown. Johnston made a great play on a pass to Thelwell. Johnston’s pick in the fourth quarter was the key play that gave the Riders the touchdown. The Riders were in the face of Burris the whole game. The score pretty much flatters the Stamps.
Hughes got the first touchdown, which was key. You see, it was a huge drive against the wind that pretty much set the tone of the game. Now you can say the Stamps made up for that as they did a drive of their own directed by Burris for a touchdown of their own. Burris ended the drive with a one-yard run. The Stamps led 11-7.
The Riders then got the next touchdown with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Getzlf from Bishop. Bishop was fantastic in the first half. He did nothing wrong all half. Burris was not bad either. The main problem for the Stamps was that they could not finish their drives. It cost them two points. The Stamps led the game at half time 21-20.
The third quarter was a quarter of mistakes by the Stampeders. The first, obviously, being the Burris fumble. The second was not taking advantage of the wind. The Stamps had plenty of chances to put this game out of reach. You have to hand it to the Riders; the third quarter the Stamps lost this game.
The fourth quarter was another disastrous mistake by Burris, throwing an awful pass to Thelwell, upon which Johnston made a great play (which by the way he has all season) setting up another touchdown. But Mr. Browner - whom I love - his play in the special play set up a major drive in the fourth quarter, ending with a field goal. He constantly goes within the 5 yard range, which pretty much gave the Riders that winning field goal with 2 minutes left. Browner is Mr. Hustle, but he has to remember that 5 yard zone. Today it cost the Stamps a field goal. Bottom line: the Riders made the Stamps pay for their mistakes to take a 37-34 ball game.

WOW! 3 teams tied for first place with 4 games to go. Great game all around. Homefield will mean so much to either of these teams once the playoffs start. The last 4 games are going to feel like playoff games.
Off topic, how about the rant on hockey by Milt Stegall yesterday? Is he that dumb? I always thought he was smarter than that!
