Rams let Linehan go, name Haslett in interim

Today the Rams didn’t surprise anyone by announcing the firing of head coach Scott Linehan. They also announced that defensive coordinator Jim Haslett will be named head coach in the interim.

The move was speculated for more than a week now, with owner Chip Rosenbloom hinted that changes would be made following the Rams lost to the Seahawks last Sunday.

Things were further complicated for Linehan when we learned that prominent Rams players notably RB Steven Jackson, starting QB Marc Bulger, and WR Torry Holt all questioning his decision to bench Bulger for yesterday’s game to the Buffalo Bills.

In the end, Linehan fell out of favour with the players and as I have said before when that happens, the coach usually gets fired. It was no different today.

Jim Haslett now takes over for the Rams. He is most known for being coach of the New Orleans Saints from 2000- 2005. He will most likely just fill in for this season while the Rams search for a new coach in the offseason.

So the Rams are the first team to fire a coach in the 2008 season. Will it be enough to save their season? Or was it just the thing to do after the team had played so horribly? We soon will see.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Linehan, but I would prefer him over Haslett.

I can’t see things getting better any time soon for the Rams after this announcement…

Nice move only in the sense that it seemed like Linehan had lost the room, a fresh approach and clean slate should help but it will be interesting to see how this team responds? if it doesn’t respond well right away to the Rams make a few roster moves? I would certainly think they would.

If Haslett can turn the defense around it’ll give the offense a better chance. or at least keep the fans around till the end of the game with some competetive football.

Who knows maybe a new approach will make things better. I mean how bad could you be after the 0-4 the Rams had and with the defense playing so horribly.

Hopefully the team responds, for the sake of themselves and all the Rams fans. In terms of the roster, I expect a major roster overhaul in the offseason.

Exactly. At least provide some competitive football for the fans. It is pathetic the way they have played at home thus far.

He kept stressing that the team will play hard, I wonder if that was something he thought the team wasnt doing when Linehan was HC. Just a thought!

Yeah the whole team definitely didn’t play hard enough which was evident. The defense couldn’t even tackle. Hopefully things will change with Haslett.
