Jets soar past Arizona 56-35

There’s very little in his storied career that Brett Favre has not accomplished. One thing he hadn’t done before was throw more than five touchdowns in any game at any level.
You can check that one off the list now.
The Jets’ passing offense exploded in a game they simply had to win. They played like a desperate team, putting the San Diego Monday Night debacle behind them in a hurry. In addition to Favre’s ridiculously good performance, the Jets also received major contributions from WR’s Laveranues Coles (8 catches, 105 yards, 3 TD’s) and Jerricho Cotchery (4, 67, 2).
Even more impressive was the defense who, despite allowing 35 points, harrassed Arizona QB Kurt Warner all day long, sacking him five times, intercepting three passes (returning one for a touchdown) and recovering four fumbles.
Jets analysis:
Offense: Obviously, not much more needs to be said about Favre…8 different New York players recorded receptions in the game…TE Dustin Keller caught his second touchdown in as many games…the offensive line only allowed the Cardinals to sack Favre twice and dominated the line of scrimmage…the running game was less than stellar, though WR Brad Smith did gain 17 yards on a nice fake reverse.
Defense: This much maligned unit finally showed up to play…CB Dwight Lowery led the way with 9 tackles. The rookie is looking like a probable steal from last year’s draft…CB Darrelle Revis performed admirably against Arizona superstar WR Larry Fitzgerald…DE David Bowens recorded two sacks…S Eric Smith laid a vicious helmet-to-helmet hit on the Cardinal’s Anquan Boldin in the waning minuted of the game. Boldin was taken from the stadium by ambulance to a local hospital and later released.
Overall: No, the Jets can’t play the Cardinals every week and it would be a stretch to believe Brett Favre will have another amazing day like this one again this season. However, the team did send a message with this game that they will not take their foot off the gas against anybody. They go into their bye week 2-2 and will have a chance to focus all their energy on replicating this effort against the remaining teams on their schedule.

I’m glad I started Favre in my fantasy football matchup.

Favre had a short field to work with most times. The Boldin fumble early in the 1st quarter was bad, to go with the Warner fumble that moved them back to the 32 on first and goal. Overall, the thing for Jets fans that has to be concerning is that their secondary the last 2 weeks has been one of the worst in the NFL.
