Week 4 Aftermath: Sunday Night Is Alright For Bears

There’s is something about Sunday Night Football that brings out the best in the Chicago Bears. Well, I probably shouldn’t say the best, but the Bears 24-20 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles marks the second Sunday Night win this season, with the first one having come over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1. Even with Donovan McNabb playing in his hometown, the Bears perservered and came out with a much needed victory. Now 2-2, Chicago heads into Week 5 with a favourable matchup against the Detroit Lions, anything less than a win here will be considered an embarassment by anyone and everyone. Looking at this week’s keys:
1. Give The Ball To Brandon: WR Brandon Lloyd only had 2 receptions tonight for 33 yards, not playingas significant a role as he had in past weeks. This was mainly due to QB Kyle Orton spreading the passes around, with 8 different players making at least 1 reception. It was nice to see Devin Hester make his return to the lineup, and make an impact nonetheless! Hester had 3 receptions, and found the endzone for the first time this season, nice to see him finally wake up and earn his paycheck.
2. Orton Plays To Keep His Job: It seems as if Kyle Orton decided that his role model for the week would be Bucs QB Brian Griese. Although he didn’t throw the ball 68 times, Orton still threw over 30 times, for 200 yards, 2 touchdowns, and the similar 3 interceptions that Griese threw last week. Although many would not consider this an ideal role model, Orton got the job done and will keep his job for the forseeable future.
Notes
- RB Matt Forte was solid for a fourth straight week, leading the Bears in both rushing and receiving yards. The kid has proven to everyone that he has made the transition to the NFL successfully, and he has a bright future ahead of him.
- It was great to see veteran WR Marty Booker take an active role this week in the Bears offense, making one catch for 23 yards and finding the endzone.
- Greg Olsen has redeemed himself in my books, catching Orton’s 3rd touchdown pass of the day. I was going to appoint him the nickname ‘Butterfingers’ but alas I will have to save it for another day.
Stay tuned for Wednesday’s mid-week blog!

The goal line stance was impressive late in the game, but the epitomy of that team! DEFENSE!!!
