Panthers Post a Solid win but at what cost?

On a day where Muhsin Muhammad became the Carolina Panthers all time leading receiver, the Panthers saw 2 key members of their offensive line drop. Jordan Gross left early in the 1st quarter with what appeared to be a possible concussion (hopefully no ill effects). The greater concern was rookie lineman Otah leaving with a knee injury in the 2nd half who has been very solid for the line this season so far.

The trend lately of the road team winning the game ended today as the two teams neutralized each other’s run game holding each other in check with no runner rushing for more than 60 yards and both teams garnering almost identical yardage per team with Atlanta holding a slight edge at 118 to 107. On Atlanta’s first possession a questionable call by guess who? Ed Hochuli negated a pick for six by Richard Marshall on a phantom helmet to helmet hit by Julius Peppers on Matt Ryan. Well at least Ed is consistent LOL. The Panthers insuing possession saw Jonathan Stewart cap off a nice drive with an 8 yard scamper for the Panthers first score. Steve Smith turned a 17 yard catch into a spin and run for a 56 yard touchdown to reclaim his Mr. excitement title for the Panthers. Muhammad had his best receiving game since 2004 with 8 catches for 147 yards and a TD. The Panthers continued to shoot themselves in the foot with 11 penalties for 90 yards but were able to wear Atlanta’s secondary down with a solid air attack.

I picked the Panthers to win this game and they did not disappoint me.  What worries me at this point is the status of our 2 lineman. John Fox’s focus for this team starts in the trenches and if either or both have sustained any significant injuries, the Panther’s can be in trouble. Let’s hope for the Panther’s sake that they can actually stay healthy this season as they have been absolutely decimated by injuries in the last 3 seasons. The 24 hour rule is now in effect celebrate the win and come back to work tomorrow ready to go…. Solid win Boys!!!

With the Cowboys being exposed at home, the NFC all of a sudden becomes a wide open conference once again. Panthers are in the thick of it.

This is a very solid and underrated team once again! Fox gets this team to compete every year!

Thanks Dan after last night Chicago proved they are in the elite class again and Minnesota are a good team but not great so I stand corrected this time….LOL

The Panthers are always a better team when they can fly just under the radar! This may be their best receiving core to date and the one two punch of Williams and Stewart look fantastic so far. Just hope for health for the team this season, mostly for Jake…

Excellent point the WHOLE league is a crap shoot this season and it will truly come down to whomever is rolling at the end of the year, much like last year would be my thoughts. The Patriots losing Brady and the Cowboys are an erruption from T.O. away from melting!

The RB tandem is something else, young and very effective. They have a solid back-up QB too in case Delhomme gets hurt again. I like what they are doing in Carolina.

Solid or not I would certainly not want to go down that road again by losing Jake. Delhomme’s desire and will to win can be the Panther’s X factor this season. This team has been on the cusp for a while now but have been rocked by injuries.
