The Stampeders proved tonight that they can win ugly, as they did not wake up for the first half in Toronto. As the Stamps outscored the Argo’s 34-3 after they fell behind the Argos 13-10,

They pounded the Argo’s 44-16 in front of a crowd of a little over 28,00 fans in Toronto.

First Quarter

The Argos started off the game with a wonderful drive marching down the field, but the drive stalled with a 32 yard field goal by Vanderjagt. A nice way to start the game by Picket with a 55-yard 9 play drive. The Argos led early 3-0. The Stamps quickly made that upset up by a tremendous 60 yard return by Summers. The Stamps did nothing, three and out with Sandro kicking a 40 yard field goal.

SECOND QUARTER

The Argos had a great drive again, but it stalled again with Vanderjagt kicking a 29-yard field goal, the Argos taking a 6-3 lead in the first quarter. The Argo’s get the first turnover of the game, with an interception by Wheaten in the end zone, ending a scoring threat with a bay pass by Burris. Mr. Vanderjagt has a brain cramp as he fumbles the ball in the end zone. Raymond recovers it 10-6. It looked like the Argos were going to make a game of this, as they took the ball and Pucket orchestrated a 69-yard drive and Crawford ran for a 9 yard scamper, to give the Argos a 13-10 lead. After that, the Stamps got a couple of safety touches, to make it 14-13. The Stamps make the play of the game with a 60-yard pass play to Copeland. This catch was a terrific play by Copeland, as somehow he makes an acrobatic catch in double coverage. Reynolds runs a one-yard touchdown after the catch. The half ends 21-13.

Third Quarter

Sandro kicks two field goals and Vanderjaget kicks one, to put the score 27-16. Then Bruce gets walloped by Hughes and fumbles the ball, and Anderson recovers it. Good teams make you pay, and that exactly what they do. Burris throws a 32-yard touchdown pass to Thelwell. The Stamps score two touchdowns on two turnovers. You don’t make mistakes against the good teams; the Argos learn a tough lesson.

Fourth Quarter

Johnston then fumbles the ball after a James hit recovered by Browner. The Stamps get another field goal, to make it 37-16, The Stamps close out the scoring when Sankey comes at the end of the drive with a one-yard plunge The final score 44-16,

Conclusion

The Stamps score 17 points on turnovers; the Argos get three off theirs. The Stamps turn it over in the third quarter on their 30 yard line. The Argos could not take advantage of the turnover, settling for a field goal. That sums it all up. The Argos had their chances, and did not take advantage of their breaks. When you got a tiger, lock him before he eats you. The Argos became the Stamps’ dinner; they didn’t lock up the Tiger, and they paid for it. The Stamps have scored 38, 41, 34 and 44 points. The offense is running on all cylinders right now.

Stamps player of the game

Summers was a constantly making great returns all night. He probably had his best game of the season for the Stamps. His 60-yard return was the best of the season.

Argos player of the game

Bruce had 9 catches, for 76 yards in the game. I thought he might have been the most dangerous weapon for Toronto in the contest.
